PhD student looking for a shared home

I just moved to Manchester from Berlin and recently started my PhD in Politics at the University of Manchester. I am looking for either a studio apartment/one bedroom flat or a room in a shared flat/house from mid-January 2026 onwards for at least six months. I am also open to buddy up with people who would like to find a house together.

I am originally from Germany but have previously lived, studied and worked in Australia, Russia, Pakistan, Sweden and the UK. I lived in various different shared houses with people of different ages and from different backgrounds and always enjoyed the experience. I do enjoy going out with friends for a drink or a nice dinner as well as for concerts and theatre or go dancing sometimes but am not so much the regular "clubbing-and-partying-all-night" type. I rather spend my weekends exploring the city and the surroundings on a day trip.

I don't mind having a small room and sharing a kitchen/bathroom etc. but I would like it if it's still a space that has some character. I am the kind of flatmate who brings home some flowers for the dinner table and puts up a picture to make a place feel like a home even if it's far away from home. Ideally I would like to live in a house with a cozy communal space and maybe some outdoor space. If I could dream big a garden would be perfect (maybe we can grow our own vegetables next year).

It would be great if it is semi-furnished with essentials but still has room to bring my/our own things to the mix and make it real cozy. I love to go charity shopping for low budget vintage furniture pieces, art and other personal bits and would really like to have a home that has room to make it my/our own.

I would love to live with people who are easy to communicate with and are honest about their boundaries and expectations. I prefer it's a setting where we like to spend time together and are interested in one another while at the same time are respectful if somebody needs their space too.
