Description
I am an Assistant Professor at UCL and I am looking for a room to rent from 19 January 2026. I would initially like to stay for about six months, but I am open to extending this. My primary home is in Budapest and I travel back very frequently. Until September 2026 I will only be in London for a few days every second week. During this period I would mostly use the room to sleep, shower, and take care of basic daily needs. I would still like a permanent base in London, as I need an official address and registration on the electoral roll while I look for a place to buy.
If I stay beyond September, my small dog may join me for part of the year (September to December). She is a 5kg Coton de Tulear and is very friendly with people, dogs, and cats. On the days when I go into the office (two days a week), she would be in doggy daycare.. I typically work from home about three days a week.
I am looking for a bright, spacious, warm, quiet, and well-insulated room, ideally with an en-suite bathroom. Good and flexible heating is essential, as I need the room to reach about 20°C at night to sleep well. I am completely happy to pay extra for any increased gas or electricity use based on the meter. Because I am allergic to dust, I would strongly prefer a hard floor such as wood, tiles, or laminate rather than carpet.
It is important for me to live in a clean, safe, green, and quiet neighbourhood with good public transport connections, and where I would feel comfortable walking home at night. I particularly like NW London, but I am also open to living in nearby towns such as St Albans or Harpenden, as long as the place is in walking distance from the train station.
Ideally, I would prefer to share with one other person, preferably a woman, or with a family, provided the room is well separated from the main living spaces; for example, having the whole top floor to myself. I would also appreciate a kitchen that is large enough to manage the morning peak before everyone heads out.
