Description
42 year old working professional without children or pets, looking for a fresh start in a new area.
I'm open to house-shares, housing co-ops, live-in-landlords as well as lodging situations, and I'm seeking either a double room or something self-contained (e. g. studio/bedsit, garden house, annex, tiny home, top floor, basement). I'd like to settle somewhere for a while ideally but am open to shorter term stays and sublets while figuring things out.
More about me
+++++++++++++
Originally I'm from Lancashire but have been living in North & East London on/off for a couple of decades. I'm now looking for somewhere new, in South London or further afield in East Sussex (Brighton/Hove, Hastings) or Kent (Folkestone).
My main work is as a couples therapist and individual psychotherapist, which I mostly practice in-person from a rented office in East London (that I intend to keep for the time being).
I also run workshops/events (poetry, psychogeography, discussion groups) and in the summer months I volunteer every other weekend for a drugs/psychological welfare charity at small UK festivals. I've always a few creative projects on the go too that I'm either getting lost in or procrastinating on.
I like to be on my feet. I love the coast and walking in the countryside, particularly up/down hills, in most weather conditions if the mud isn't too lethal! To relax I enjoy pottering around town, reading novels and watching movies, and as the weather gets warmer I tend to spend more and more time outside.
Outside of festivals, my regular partying days are over. I'm sociable, though quite introverted and love solitude but I make time to catch up with friends (and housemates) every week. These days I prefer socialising with less of a hedonistic focus and more of a nerdy/activity-based one (e. g. esoteric talks, trail running, cold water swims, sauna) but I still go to gigs when I can. I'm a musician myself and want to get back into performing again after a 2 year hiatus.
I'm a warm and playful but responsible guy who takes a genuine interest in people, has a sense of humour, enjoys good conversation and likes getting to know housemates/finding out what makes them tick. At the same time I'm not someone who needs to make small-talk and I'm not just comfortable with silence, I actually think sharing silence with housemates can be utterly blissful at the right doses.
Every now and then I appreciate a house dinner, cup of tea, pint at the local, watching a film on the projector (I come with one) together, an extended kitchen/living room natter or simply a walk around the block/heading to the park.
I bought a 2nd hand car last summer and currently enjoy doing little road trips at the weekends. Somewhere with a parking space would be a bonus.
Other things I want to mention
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
My partner lives in East London so it's likely I'd stay 1-2 nights a week with her there. Likewise she probably will come to stay a night most weeks. With this in mind, I'll consider 5-night arrangements (Mon-Fri/Sun-Thu) too.
20 years of co-habiting has taught me that what really matters to me above all is living with emotionally mature people who speak sincerely and act respectfully.
I appreciate housemates who look after shared spaces (tidy and uncluttered but not obsessively so), voice discontent/issues if it arises (so we can figure it out), don't make excessive noise, are realistic about peoples' imperfections and know how to create a harmonious environment.
One last thing... I'm looking for a place where people don't have sound blaring out of their tinny device speakers (social media/YouTube/Netflix/music etc) in the communal areas and where people take their work and personal calls in their rooms.
Happy to do a video intro/have a phone chat before arranging a viewing and have plenty of references available for those who need them.
Thanks for reading (if you got this far).
