Mature Professional & Elderly Cat seek Quiet Share

My name is Alan, I'm 49 and work full-time as a website manager for a national outdoors equipment retailer. I've been living in my current rented home (sharing with others who have come and gone) for almost 25 years and can provide an excellent landlord reference. Unfortunately, my current landlord is now retiring and moving back to Sheffield and as I live in the only "family home" in his portfolio, I have to move on as he needs to move back in.

I'm looking for somewhere quiet and relaxed for myself and my well-mannered elderly and slightly disabled cat. He is 17 with a spinal disability and spends most of his time asleep as he is now slowing down considerably; he is comfortable around dogs and has lived with other cats before.

Whilst I don't have a dog, I'm also fond of dogs, I regularly take a disabled friend's plummer terrier for a long walk which we both enjoy.

When not at work, much of my time is given over to spending time with the cat at the moment; but I enjoy exploring the Peak District, some of my walks are covered on my small walking blog site (although recently caring for the moggie has meant the blog hasn't been updated as often, recently) and also enjoy a steady pint or two of a decent ale - a postwalk crossword session accompanied by an IPA or two with friends on a Sunday afternoon has become something of a ritual pastime.

I wold probably describe myself as "Introvert but not unsociable" - Inside the house I'm usually hostage to the cat who prefers me to be sat with a quiet glass of wine whilst he sleeps on my knee, or doing website related projects, or bingeing a box-set from time to time.

I'm also reasonably competent with general DIY jobs so not the worst person to have around in case of leaky taps and other general "handyperson" level maintenance (within terms of any tenancy contract of course)
