Japanese researcher looking for a calm home

Hello! I’m a Japanese academic planning to stay in the UK for six months from late September as a visiting researcher. In Japan, I work as an associate professor at a university and specialize in African area studies, rural economy, and cultural/ ecological anthropology.

I’m currently looking for a quiet and tidy place to live, ideally within 50 minutes’ commute to the University of Sussex. A furnished room with access to a kitchen and a washing machine would be ideal.

I usually work during the day and enjoy spending peaceful evenings at home. I don’t have pets, and although I use a smokeless tobacco device (IQOS), I strictly follow all house rules regarding smoking.

I value a clean and respectful shared living environment. I enjoy good food and drinks, and would love to live in a place where flatmates occasionally enjoy chatting over a meal or a glass of wine. If the room has a desk or a space where I can work, that would be a great bonus.
