Canadian Scientist Seeks Flatshare!

I'm a 29 year old synthetic biologist moving to Edinburgh for the first time, looking for friendly flatmates with passionate interests for the next two years. :)

I'm moving from Germany, in which I shared a flat with 8 people for 3 years. It was a high-effort living situation (i. e. daily communication via text, weekly cleaning duties, and monthly meetings where we would discuss community dynamic improvements), but it was also a lot of fun - everyone’s personality and life history brought something different to the table, and some of my roommates became life-long best friends. I am therefore looking for a similar living situation in Edinburgh, but with more of a “grown-up” spin now that I am starting a postdoctoral fellowship. :) You can therefore expect that I will keep our space squeaky-clean, communicate clearly, and calmly address any problems that may arise.

I'll be starting at the University of Edinburgh with Dr. Stephen Wallace on May 4 for at least 2 years, so I would be looking for a May 1 move-in date. I just finished my PhD in Marburg, Germany on a plastic-degrading bacterium, but I am Canadian by birth (I grew up on a farm in northwestern Canada, then moved to the metropolis of Toronto for my BSc). While I am very serious about my scientific work and often work long hours during the week, I love spending time in nature outside the lab (hiking, running, or cycling) or hosting dinner parties for friends. I also enjoy creative activities, touring different cities with a cappuccino in-hand, and reading in the sun wherever possible.

If I sound like someone you would welcome in your flat, please write me! I am happy to meet virtually for the month of April - I am spending the last month between scientific jobs visiting my family in Alberta, followed by my sister in Quebec, and finally hiking the Fisherman's Trail in Portugal. I therefore won't be physically in Edinburgh until May 2, but I am very happy to correspond before then (and/or provide documents like my Proof of Employment). Looking forward to hearing from you! :)
