Vermonter in Scotland seeking a new home in Leith

Howdy!

My name's Hunter and I'm currently wrapping up a Master's Degree in Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh this summer. I'm hoping to move north out of the city center towards Leith Walk or Stockbridge, and my timing can be pretty flexible (so long as it's before September).

Growing up in Vermont and having been raised by very outdoorsy parents (who got engaged at the end of the Appalachian Trail!), I've developed passions for hiking, backpacking, biking, skiing, ultimate frisbee, disc golf, etc. Aside from that, I also enjoy listening to and playing music—lots of indie, folk, indie folk (think Fleet Foxes et al.), and the occasional classical guitar piece revived from my days of lessons in the case of the latter. I also enjoy a good book (most recently The Secret History, Braiding Sweetgrass, and Babel) and/or a good film, especially at the urging of my brother and my girlfriend, both of whom have studied film in university. Academically, my current interests lie in the pragmatic subfield of linguistics, but I also enjoy a conversation about a great many topics, from discussing an interesting map to commiserating after Scotland's most recent international match.

I think my friends would describe me as relaxed, witty, and pretty down-to-earth. My philosophy in life is something along the lines of: Do the next cool thing, develop new ideas while doing, and befreind those whose presense recurs in such environments. My greatest fear? Missing out on novel experiences worth having, thoughts worth thinking, or life worth living.

As for the boring stuff, I'm going to start work at Joseph Pearch this summer alongside writing my dissertation, though I've had various jobs such as running a ski shop or designing trails for my undergrad institution prior to that. I can be happy in many spaces, but a spacious kitchen and warm, natural interiors are where I feel at home.
