Description
Hi, I'm Giancarlo. I'm moving from Italy in October to start a PhD in Mathematics at the University of Hertfordshire, and I'm looking for a double room in a friendly, relaxed house share in St Albans — ideally on or near the Uno 602 bus route to College Lane campus.
About me: I'm quiet, tidy and easy-going, with six years of house-sharing behind me. I'll be on campus most days, but I'd like enough space in the room to work from home too. I love cooking — Italian and Chinese especially — and I'm always keen to try new dishes. In my last house we'd often cook together in the evenings, which was a good way to learn from each other and spend time as a household.
To be upfront about the kind of house I'm after: a party house wouldn't work for me at all. I need a calm, quiet home I can work in. For that reason I'd rather not live in an undergraduate house — I'm looking for a share with working professionals or other postgraduate researchers. Ideally a house of four, and I'm a non-smoker. None of that means antisocial: I'd love housemates I can sit down and have a coffee with.
Practical details: my PhD runs for at least three years, so I'm looking for a proper home rather than a short stay. I'm fully funded by a UKRI stipend for the full duration, and I can share my studentship agreement and university offer letter as proof of income. I'll have my Right to Rent share code ready for the check. As a full-time student I'm disregarded for council tax.
Availability: I can move in from 1 October and I'm looking to go straight into a permanent room. As I'm still in Italy, I'd like to arrange a video call so we can meet and I can see the place properly.
Do get in touch — I'd be glad to hear about your room.
