Description
After 3 glorious years sadly our housemate is moving on, so we now have a semi-furnished room in our nice Victorian house. We are ideally looking for another dude to maintain the balance.
The house is a 3 storey terrace in Bishopston, very close to (but not on) Gloucester Road and to St Andrew’s park (the location on spare room map is wrong for some reason lol). The room is on the street level/2nd floor, at the back of the house overlooking the garden. There's 4 bedrooms in total, 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen/dining room, a lounge and a decent sized garden (which also has a shed with space for a bike 🚲)
The house is generally very quiet and peaceful, so we’re really after someone on the same wavelength, as having a peaceful sanctuary space is important to us (think the opposite of a “party house”). We have partners and friends round for dinner or drinks and a movie sometimes but mostly the house stays pretty calm. If you’re the kind of person to bring the party back after a night out, or constantly bringing different people round every day, then this probably isn’t the best fit for you.
We’re after someone we can be mates with, someone to enjoy a good chat over dinner or a cup of tea, might be up for doing some stuff together (pub trips, arty stuff, nature walks, climbing, film nights etc) but also comfortable with their own space and doing their own thing.
All of us are a bit wacky and officially or unofficially neurodivergent, so someone a bit quirky who doesn’t care too much about societal norms (but does care about being kind) would likely be a perfect fit :)
A little about us:
Josh (32) is an engineer who spends his time doing stuff like cycling, photography, surfing (when he can manage it), festivals, being outside as much as possible and cooking vegan stuff that takes far too long. Into pubs and pints as much as reading and board games.
I’m Sula (28), and I am a photographer, artist and teacher. I love all things outdoors and am happiest when the sun is out. I am AuDHD and have about 100 hobbies, 1500 random facts to share and am the definition of extroverted introvert. You can mostly find me in the darkroom, out with a camera, bouldering, doing yoga, making an arty mess, lifting at the gym, cycling and (weather permitting) going on a van adventure. I am also partial to chill drinks, gigs, board games and the occasional boogie.
Izzy (29) works for Bristol Zoo as a Conservation Programme manager and lecturer. She likes stealing Sula’s sewing machine and making artsy things, doing yoga or other workouts in St Andrews park, and occasionally going for a boogie at Canteen. (side note: Izzy is also away sometimes on various trips for work and pleasure).
What we are looking for in a house mate:
- A male working professional aged 27-34 ish, ideally with their stuff vaguely together
- Someone sociable, friendly, and down to earth. Low key weird but in a chill way?
- Well house trained and mindful of their impact on others e. g remembers when bin day is, does their own washing up, good at tidying up after themselves. Happy to pitch in with house cleaning.
- Willing to undertake credit check and provide proof of earnings for our (private) landlady. Probably need to provide a reference too but will double check.
- No students, couples or smokers. Definitely no tories, TERF-y types, spiderman villains or other non-chill people.
- Also sadly, no pets :(
Exact furnishings are tbc but the room has a couple of built-in storage cupboards/spaces, there's a chest of drawers that belongs to the room, and a bed frame/base can be provided if needed. If you have some of your own bedroom kit (especially bed/mattress) it'll make things easier, and other stuff we might be able to fit around what you might be bringing (space dependent)
The rent at present is £425 pcm plus bills (energy, water, internet and council tax band D) which are £123 each at the moment (so total of £548) . The deposit is 1 month’s rent and no agency involved so no fees. The exact date for move in is tbc whilst we have some discussions with the landlord, but is likely to be at some point between the 10th and 25th of august, so would be great if you had some flexibility around this.
Please let us know a little about yourselves, what you enjoy and how you might fit in etc, and if you sound like a nice (mostly) sane human then we will come back to you about doing viewings in the next week or two 😊(25th-ish July onwards) If you have any questions about the house then please feel free to ask! We're expecting a lot of interest so sorry if we don't get back to everyone
IMPORTANT INFO, PLEASE READ:
I've set the contract to state max of 9 months as there are still some things that are TBC pending discussions with the landlord regarding how the place will look next year. We just didn't want to promise that everything will stay exactly the same for the next 2 or 3 years, and wanted to be as transparent as possible! And sorry about the mega wall of text!
