Description
Hello,
Frog House at Water Lilies are looking for a lovely couple to join their community eco house for the long term. They are a friendly creative house who share regular meals together and enjoy each other’s company.
Ideally we are looking for a couple, to replace the couple who are moving out and to keep the bills split as they are. However if we're unable to find a suitable couple then we may consider a single person. If a single person were to move in, the bills amounts stated in the advert would all increase.
RENT AND BILLS:
Rent for the double room listed is £793 per month. On top of this we pay approx £160-£200 per month each which covers: water, council tax (band E), internet, access to the community hub (more about that in section 4), use of a shared work room in the house, FOOD (this looks like 2 x weekly organic veg box with butter and eggs, a bi-monthly order Essentials organics order for pantry items, a weekly supermarket shop).
All food is covered in bills, unless you want personal items. This makes our food very cheap and we eat mostly veggie and organic.
Electricity is very cheap as there is an air source heat pump and solar panels which cover a lot of the current energy.
THE HOUSE LAYOUT:
The house has 3 floors. At the bottom there is a self contained flat where a couple live who make great vegan pastel de natas (sometimes these float upstairs). On the first floor there is an open plan kitchen, diner come living room (see photos!). This room is large and backs onto the terraced garden with patio, lawn and some big planters – green fingers welcome! On the 2nd floor, as well as bedrooms there is a shared work/ craft making room. This room also has an inbuilt mezzanine where we have a guest bed/ futon with arguably the best views in the house. There is a balcony too for summer evening dinners/ drinks! There are 3 bathrooms in the house with 3 toilets, 2 showers, 1 bath between them. There are also 2 Victorian driers to hang clothes in the high ceilinged stair well.
The bedroom being advertised is on the top floor, adjoining to a room with another couple. The bedroom has a mezzanine level bed accessed by steps, which makes it not very accessible for those with disabilities. There is some loft space accessed through this room which is accessed by request by other housemates.
FROG HOUSE ETHOS:
Since we moved to Frog House we have worked together to create a community which reflects the needs of its occupants. To reduce kitchen chaos and vary our palettes we cook together and for each other most nights. As our food is shared this works well and means you only have to cook one night of the week at most! Bar the cook, we all wash up. Other than this we are generous to one another and have a cleaning rota which people actually do. We sometimes invite friends for dinner or to stay but usually for a larger gathering we will book the community hub.
We’ve created systems and spreadsheets so we can all stay on top of bills, household duties, veg boxes, food orders etc. But, as with any community we are constantly evolving and are open to new ways of thinking. We hold monthly house meetings.
The housemates are a group of professionals (mostly working in creative/ caring roles) who enjoy cycling, running, climbing, football, crafting and gardening. It's a lovely community vibe- they do things together frequently, but there is no obligation for this.
WATER LILIES COMMUNITY AND COMMITMENTS:
Alongside the community of Frog House you will also be part of the water lilies community where there is a small commitment of 2 hours per month to be involved with the site activities – this can include clear ups, helping with the community garden (lots of veg from this!), being involved with meetings, cleaning the hub.
A little about water lilies:
Water Lilies itself consists of 33 homes built around a communal garden and community hub. The garden is shared and the hub can be used/ booked by any resident (some examples are regular yoga classes / meditation groups / pot luck dinners / kids play space / music lessons). The homes (including Frog House) are all eco / passivhaus built to a high-spec. The homes were designed to prioritise sustainability with Water Lilies being the first domestic development in the UK to have their own micro-grid / battery storage powered by solar!
THE LOCAL AREA:
Water Lilies is located on the edge of Bristol in between Kings Weston, Shirehampton and Lawrence Weston. Frog house backs onto Blaise castle estate and Kings Weston house where there are beautiful wooded walks/ runs. In front of us/ below is Avonmouth, the estuary and a glimpse of Wales. In terms of amenities there is a Lidl and Coop 10 minute walk away and a cute café at Kings Weston House (just five minutes walk). Transport links include the train at Shirehampton, buses and e-scooters. There is also a possibility of lifts/ car shares with either people in Frog House or the wider water lilies Community.
VIEWINGS:
If you like the sound of Frog House and feel you could fit in well please message me with a little about yourself and any questions. We will begin to have viewings in January.
Frog House look forward to meeting you!
P. s. We have a tabby cat who is very cute X
P. p. s These photos are a bit old and the house might look a bit different now :)
