Description
Paradise Housing Cooperative (PHC) has two houses in Cambridge, each house has 5-6 members. There is a room now available to let in the Kingston Street house.
Each resident automatically becomes a member of the Cooperative and plays an active role in running it as an organisation. There is no landlord. Instead, the Coop is run by the residents. We manage the Coop's finances and the maintenance of the properties. By managing the Coop’s affairs we are able to keep the rent and bills affordable. Each member serves on one of four sub-committees (finance, secretarial, policy or maintenance). There are at least three meetings a month that members are required to attend: a house meeting, a general coop-wide meeting and a sub-committee meeting. Active participation in both the running of the house and the cooperative is essential and it is required as part of the tenancy agreement. Due to the time commitment involved, this arrangement may not be suitable for full-time students.
The rooms are let unfurnished, but the rest of the house is fully furnished. Rent and bills come to less than £400 p/m. We strive to have a house that feels like ‘home’: very friendly, super clean and tidy. We all work full time and have our own lives and activities; we like to come home and feel as if it is our sanctuary. We aim to be as eco-friendly as possible. Housemates encourage a positive cooperative living environment.
We are looking for a responsible, friendly and cooperative housemate who would like to be part of the cooperative, promote cooperative values and contribute to the development of the cooperative.
If you are interested in this alternative housing option, we would really like to hear from you! Please message us for an application form; interviews (most likely online) are planned for the Monday 14, Tuesday 15 and Thursday 17 of September 2020 in the evening. After the application form is received, the candidates will receive a link to choose an interview slot; first come first served!
