Description
This is a small double room in a lovely house with two old friends as current tenants. We are sociable, easy-going clean, tidy and considerate and are looking for a like minded third housemate to join us. I (Loz) work in the biotech industry and the other housemate (Sam) is a postdoc. He enjoys reading, TV/films and sports; I'm keen on my gardening, foraging and watching/playing sport. Together, we enjoy things like going for a pint, watching Cambridge United lose and catching up with friends. If you're new to Cambridge and looking to make friends while finding a great place to live, this might be a good rental for you. We believe that having the right personality is key to making our living arrangement a true home for everyone!
The highlights of the house include the communal living area which has a large dining area, a minibar, a wine cabinet, a reading nook and a comfy sofa with a TV equipped with various sports, film, and TV subscription services. While there's room for a home office setup, keep in mind that this space is primarily a living and dining area so expect some living room noise if you choose to work here. We're trying to keep the space a relatively ‘call-free area’ so if you're WFH and need to make more than a couple of calls a week it might not be the right fit.
The second big highlight of the house is the lovely, large garden which we take good care of. It has multi-coloured rose bushes, hanging baskets, cherry trees, plum trees, a mulberry tree, an apple tree, a blackcurrant bush, strawberries, raspberries and lots of space for vegetables including three raised beds - this year we have 6 types of tomato plants, tomatillos, courgettes, lemon cucumber, padroms and various other flowers. We also get visits from our neighbour's beautiful and playful alsatian/husky Charlie who is available for walks if you're keen on dogs. The garden also has a summer house where we store our bikes and garden tools. We also have a separate shed where we store logs for when we light up the fire pit.
Facilities, Utilities, Furnishings:
The house comes with one bathroom equipped with a shower. You'll have access to a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, and essential furnishings like sofas, tables, a bed, and a mattress. Our housemates have added some communal extras, including a 56-inch TV, a mini-bar, an espresso machine, a food processor, a coffee grinder, a rice cooker, hot plates, a toaster, gardening equipment and various other furnishings.
Location:
The house is in Chesterton which is just a short 10-15 minute walk from Cambridge North station and the Science Park. A quick cycle ride will take you into town, and you'll have easy access to the river and beautiful green spaces like Stourbridge Common and Milton Country Park.
Other:
The property is a council tax band C. We are happy to accept students but only if you're happy to waive your council tax exemption, sorry. Ideally, we can't take on a couple due to space restrictions but we can discuss options and pricing if you the couple is a really good fit for the rental.
Bills (approx. £144 per person, per month):
Internet - £9
Gas+ Electric - £39
Water - £30 (not every month)
Council Tax - £66 (not every month)
