Description
Hello, we are Brittany, Chardy (affectionately “The Creature”), and Paul, an American/Kiwi/German trio living together in a beautiful house in the Riverside neighbourhood (right next to big Tesco). Brittany will move out mid-September, and we are hoping to find someone who would like to move into her room. You should know right away that Chardy is unique, in that she is a cat (see Fig. 4).
Here are some things to know about us and the house. We would like you to be happy with these vibes so that life here is as joyful and harmonious as possible.
**About the house.**
*The house is two floors and has 3 bedrooms (with 1 used as a shared study area/office/guest room) and 1.5 bathrooms.
*Ground floor: living room (Fig. 5), dining room, kitchen (Fig. 6), half bathroom, and garden with bicycle storage (plenty of wildflowers and some elder). The back garden (Fig. 8) may be accessed via the back door or via a path at the side of the house.
*Amenities: washing machine, TV, espresso machine
*Your private bedroom (Fig. 2, 3, 4) is on the ground floor, through the kitchen. The half bathroom is just outside the room. The bedroom has two windows with a view of the garden and contains one small double bed, a desk with drawers + chair, rug, nightstand, mirror, and shelving. There is extra storage space under the bed and also a chest of drawers just outside the room.
*1st Floor: Paul’s bedroom, the shared office/guest room (Fig. 7), main bathroom
*Located in Riverside, just a 15 minute walk to Cambridge city centre. The house is conveniently located ~2 minute walk from the big Tesco, ~5 minutes to the Beehive Centre and Grafton shopping site. It is just across the street from the Cambridge boathouses and very close to Jesus College.
*The rent is £954 pcm for each of us, including all bills. The current contract will continue until June 2028. We are renting directly with the landlady, the relationship is good.
*The landlady gave us full license to really make the house our own, which we did! There were admittedly a lot of things to fix and prettify, but by now we think it has come together really well. Come judge for yourself!
**About me, Paul.**
My name is Paul Siewert, I’m a 2nd-year PhD student at Jesus College working in mathematical linguistics (Department of Computer Science) and the ethics of mathematics. I am originally from Berlin, so you can expect a lovely aroma of German baked goods in the house during Christmastime! I love a good chat over Kaffee und Kuchen (or tea and biscuits, for the more Britishly inclined), coworking sessions, and taking walks around our lovely neighbourhood. Brittany vouches that I am very organised and tidy.
Together, Brittany and I loved hosting dinner parties with friends and colleagues, going to Kerb Kollective coffee shop and the Engineer’s House pub (both are just a 3-minute walk away!), and hosting friends in our guest room. We also pass out candy for the neighbourhood kids on Halloween and take The Creature on strolls through the neighbourhood, though she is an indoor/outdoor kitty and can come and go as she pleases. :) As this is a house, there is always something to do – we like to do it as a team.
