Description

We have a comfortable double room available in the heart of the village of Grantchester, just a short cycle from Cambridge city centre. The house has a lovely garden, kitchen, sitting/dining room, a small library, a shared bathroom and an additional new shower room downstairs. We are seeking a single individual only. I am an academic, my husband is retired, and our current housemate, of over 10 years, is an editor. We also have a very friendly Alsatian dog and one slightly weird cat (but he's cute).

One of our housemates is getting her own place and will be sorely missed! So her room will be available from 1st August. Two of us often work from home, so it’s preferred to have someone who works or studies outside the house. When you are home, there is plenty of space to have a little to yourself or to share your day with us, if you feel like winding down in company.

The home is about an 11-minute cycle from the city centre, 6 minutes cycle from Waitrose, 3 minutes walk from the Grantchester Meadows and the river, 8 minutes cycle from Burwash Manor & 15 minutes cycle from Addenbrooke's.

Features of room:

Single extra long loft bed and a sofa below, which can be converted to a double bed
**NOTE: If you prefer just to have a double bed alone, we can put one back in to replace the loft bed**
Wood bed frame
Recently redone hardwood floors
Wood wardrobe
Wood chest of drawers

Features of house:

Fully furnished
Brand new kitchen, with all built in appliances and recently refinished pantry.
Small library
New washing machine
Secured bike garage
Large back and front gardens
One full bathroom upstairs
Another newly remodelled showerroom downstairs
A laundry area

Rent includes electric, gas, council tax, broadband internet, a wonderful dog and a cheeky cat.

If you have a green thumb, you’re welcome to plant what you like in the garden and enjoy the fruits of your labour. We are slowly working to improve our lovely garden creatively and attempting to make something even more beautiful. We endeavour to keep the house as sustainable as possible, by reducing waste, recycling, composting, air drying our clothes and being sensible with how we use power. That said, we do like it comfortably warm in winter and cool as possible in summer. To this end we have added thick curtains, in addition to the fairly new blinds on all windows and new radiators in all the rooms.

We welcome professionals or other postgraduates that want something rather quiet and welcoming. When I'm not busy with my research, writing, or teaching, we're usually playing golf, real tennis, running or engaged in community events. Grantchester is a proper community, so it's fun and has lots of opportunities to meet people. We have four pubs (all with food) in the village, a little coffee shop next door (in front of the Cambridge Distillery), a village hall with various goings on, the Tea Garden, a village cricket team and an active local village church. However, as we’re close to Cambridge, your options aren't limited to village life (if that's not your thing).

Our other housemate is originally from Spain, she's an editor with the Cambridge University Press and is an absolute pleasure. She loves to cook, is quite tidy, quiet and easy to get along with.

The last important item is that our dog, Brooke, and our cat, Rupert, are an important part of our household. Brooke is about 36kg, 10 years old, very friendly and usually quite relaxed. Rupert is quite cheeky, but sweet, and only a year old. Thus, being comfortable with a big dog is kind of essential. I will also add that we have a rear space that allows us to make sure Brooke is quite clean and dry after walks, and my husband normally vacuums daily. So our home neither looks nor smells like a big dog and a little cat live here. Not sure she knows she's a dog anyway, and pretty sure the cat thinks he runs the world! :-)

Note: Please email me anytime and I will respond quickly to arrange a time we can talk or meet.

Look forward to meeting you and seeing if this is a good fit!
