On the edge of The Lake District, this historic home built in the 18th century in 1789, has been beautifully updated to provide a fusion of modern convenience and technology while retaining features of its original grace.

The greatest of care has been taken in arranging the details that make this house an amazingly comfortable shared-home experience. This is a place to enjoy relaxing times, and have the best of what life inside and outside the home can offer.

Our spacious, airy double has plenty of space with lovely afternoon sunlight that streams in the large windows.

The Retreat is looking for a sociable tenant to join a relaxed and good energy household. You’ll be welcomed into a comfortable place where you can create memorable times with interesting housemates who are respectful, career professionals that come to the area from around the world.

The Retreat has 3 floors, 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 1 open concept living room and kitchen area and a share utility room. You will have your own bedroom but will share a bathroom with other housemates. A cleaning services is also provided for the bathrooms and kitchen.

Absolutely fantastic downtown location on a quiet cul-de-sac. There’s a little alley that takes you directly onto the Main Street. No need to drive or find parking, as you can simply wander leisurely around this “Gem Town” of Cockermouth.

In just a short, 2 minute stroll, you can enjoy the sights as you walk or cycle from the front door along the nature paths or riverside trails, or enjoy the Kirkgate’s live music, film and theatre. 

 Easy cycle ride to the lakes or harder rides over Whinlatter pass.

 Night life is abundant at restaurants and pubs, including the 16th century Castle Bar, a CAMRA award winning pub.



The Medical Centre, Leisure Centre, Sainsbury’s, specialty shops, and a good bike shop are all within walking distance. You might even meet your future partner here, as a couple of marriages have resulted from friendships in the house.
