Description

Looking for housemate with hours to spare (5-15 a week) - for a home (with 2 private rooms including own kitchen) in Derbyshire countryside, within a small community who share 21 acres of fields, woodland, orchard, river and allotments. My home is divided into 3, my separate annexe, my current lodger's downstairs space, this upstairs space, and some shared facilities.

It is available at reduced rent (I pay council tax) if you can offer flexible, negotiable hours of support, to help me in various ways with my own life. This could be any blend of housekeeping, shopping, cooking, diy, gardening, personal assistant work, mental health support ... the role depends on who you are and what you have to offer (as does the rent!)

The small community, Earth Heart Housing Co-operative, has 7 additional homes, whose residents must all approve any application. Participating in the monthly co-op work day is also a requirement of living here, helping with maintenance of the community's shared estate.

You would have private use of both upstairs rooms: one is a kitchen/dining room, the other a bed/sitting-room. Outside the kitchen is a mini terrace garden, also for your private use. A second lodger has similar facilities downstairs. The entrance hall and bathroom downstairs are shared, as is the front garden. The remaining downstairs room (when not used for occasional guests or my private use) can be shared if an appropriate use comes up. I live mostly in a neighbouring detached annexe.

I value living in Earth Heart Housing Co-operative, with its friendly neighbourliness, shared land and community activities, but over the 25 years since I made my home here, it has moved away from my personal ideal of community. There is less of the closeness, companionship and mutual support that used to nourish me. So I would like to create a deeper sense of community within my own household, and the '3 homes within 1 shared home' arrangement has that potential. There is a good balance, somewhere in between 'more than neighbours' / 'less than a communal house'.

Private lives, alongside sharing parts of our lives. Independence, alongside mutual support and the forging of friendship and community. It has been working beautifully with my 2 lodgers so far and we are sad that my carer/lodger needed to move closer to their family but looking forward to finding our new housemate.

If you are interested, please message with contact details and a little about yourself.
