Description

We are a family of five - Simon who is an GP, Becky who is a solicitor and our three children, Henry (aged 14), Oscar (aged 11) and Clara (aged 6). Simon and Becky both work near full-time and sometimes work from home, and so may be in the house on some weekdays. We have a busy household, running children to their various activities plus supervising homework and music practice. We also founded and run our own choir, with rehearsals held elsewhere. Our middle son Oscar weekly boards at school (he is a chorister at Exeter Cathedral) so is away on some weeknights in term time. As a family, we enjoy spending time outdoors at one of North Devon's many lovely beaches or on nearby scenic Exmoor National Park. We are fairly health-conscious and tend to cook mostly vegan/plant-based food.

We are lucky to live in a beautiful Grade II listed end of terrace townhouse with secluded patio and garden/kitchen garden, which also backs on to Rock Park & its tennis courts. Access to Barnstaple town is a short 5-10 minute walk away and there is off-street parking for our two cars as well as space for a lodger’s car. (Our driveway is just one car's width so some cooperation between us and the lodger is necessary to avoid blocking each other in.)

The house has three storeys and our lodger’s room is located on the top floor, together with what would be your own bathroom for most of the time. Our daughter Clara also has her bedroom on the top floor so may need to use the bathroom in the night for example, but she predominantly uses the family bathroom downstairs.

Your room is light-filled, having two velux windows (with black-out blinds), and a view over Rock Park. It comes furnished with a double bed, bedside tables, chest of drawers, a built-in wardrobe, full-length mirror and desk. There is spacious under-eave storage for your belongings.

We would prefer to keep our downstairs living areas private, apart from the kitchen and breakfast room, where you would be welcome. We have a separate fridge in the utility room which would be yours to use. You would also be welcome to use the patio/garden, which is south-facing.

We have hosted lodgers very successfully previously. We are considerate and friendly hosts. We don't make excessive noise, although it should be borne in mind that this is a house with young children, who bring their fair share of mayhem! Despite this, we like to try to keep the house tidy, clean and organised.

We are looking for a lodger who is respectful, considerate, responsible, clean and tidy. An appreciation for children would be great!
