Description

The house:

Bright semi-detached house, 5 minutes walk to bakery and other shops, 15 minutes walk to some peaceful spots on the Dart, 30 minutes walk (10 min cycle) into the heart of Totnes and a bit less to the train station.

There is a spacious kitchen, large conservatory, cosy living room with wood burner, greenhouse, garden with lots of growing space, outbuilding with woodworking bench, shed with lots of space for bikes and space for cars at the front. Other than my bedroom and the small bedroom if we rent it out, it is all there to be shared.

The pictures are from the estate agent as I am only just moving in. I do have some furniture, but it may be January before it feels fully like home. I thought I would put up the advert now in case you want to move in sooner and happy to offer a lower rent for the next month or two, or just if you are planning ahead. We can either furnish your room or you are welcome to bring your own.

Hopes:

Someone kind, who is keen to make it feel like home for everyone. I want it to feel like a space you can call home too, to feel like a houseshare rather than a conventional landlord-lodger setup. You are welcome to have friends over, people to stay, space in the greenhouse and garden to grow things and to bring things that will make it feel like home. It would be nice to share a meal or something from our day if that felt right, but you are also very much welcome to our own space whenever.

A bit about me: I work in the hospital in Torbay. I like cooking (mostly veggie, but not expecting you to be). I enjoy having friends over for dinner, yoga, running, being by the sea and the odd bit of lindy hop dancing.

Bills and rent:

I am factoring for £520 for rent and £140 for all bills a month, though I wonder if we keep them fixed for simplicity. If and when we get a third housemate for the smaller room, the bills will go down slightly. In the meantime you are also welcome to use the spareroom for guests. As above, if anyone wanted to move in before Jan/February, I'd happily reduce the rent to £340 for the first month, as we find our feet with more of the furniture and cosy touches (we already have table, comfortable, chairs, sofa etc).

Pets, working from home and couples: Lives are complex and I want to be flexible. I will continue to give it thought and I've based the above on a just one person, but I think a couple could possible work and you are welcome to get in touch and we can chat more. You are welcome to work from home if you need to and I am happy to talk about practicalities if so. I don’t have any pets and my instinct is to avoid others bringing pets that live in the house, but am not averse to a family pet visiting now and then.
