Description

I’m advertising it for my good friend Jamie, who is the lead tenant of this two-bedroom house and in which I lived until January this year.

You would be sharing the house with just Jamie, who is clean, courteous, and easy to get along with. He doesn’t smoke, and any visiting smokers are kindly asked to smoke outside.

A few days a week, Jamie has a friendly, older dog in his retirement years, who visits a few times a week while the doggy's mum is at work. The dog is adorable, calm, and a perfect, gentle companion. If the housemate wanted to bring a pet, this would need a chat about the needs of both animals sharing the space.

Jamie practices qigong and is vegan. While he’d love a vegetarian or vegan housemate, meat eaters are welcome too. The most important thing is mutual respect for each other’s space, while also being friendly and warm. Jamie is sociable and always happy to chat about anything from films and graphic novels to the meaning of life—or even share his latest amazing recipe!

The room available is the larger one, with plenty of natural light. I’ll be taking my bed and bookcases, but I’m happy to leave the wardrobe and chest of drawers if that’s helpful. There’s also a desk available for your use.

You’ll have your own large fridge-freezer in the kitchen, and there’s a garden you’re welcome to enjoy. The bathroom is spacious and clean, with both a bathtub and a separate shower. The house also has broadband.

Street parking is free of charge.

Jamie is open to a male or female lodger. As a woman, I can vouch for him as a respectful and civilised housemate—truly one of the loveliest people I know. I’ve known him for 25 years and am only moving out because I’m moving into my own flat.

The rent is £512.50 per month. The lovely landlady is hands-off and does not wish to increase the rent, as she values having Jamie as the lead tenant. Your lodging agreement will be directly with Jamie. Share of bills tends to be between £65 and £100 per month, plus your share of council tax (Band B) if you are not eligible for a council tax deduction. Both working professionals (whether working from home or elsewhere) and those in receipt of benefits are welcome. Couples are welcome but this would be reflected in a slightly higher contribution to the rent and bills.

Photos don’t quite do it justice. The kitchen is slightly in need of a refresh, reflected in the low rent. Jamie is happy for his new housemate to add their personal touch to the communal areas with art, photos, or throws to make the space feel welcoming. He’s open to ideas for making it a cosy and comfortable home.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
