Description
Hi! I'm Jess. I live with Anthony and Elliot. We are 24-27 years old and are looking for a new roommate to share this beautiful, Victorian terraced house, just north of Preston Park, Brighton. Sadly, one of our current housemates is moving on, so we're looking for a like-minded replacement!
The available room is on the first floor. I’ve attached a floor plan below (bedroom 4). The room backs onto the garden, which can get chilly in winter but is lovely in the summer. It isn't a large room but is perfectly big enough to fit a double bed in and other furniture. You’d share the first floor bathroom and toilet with me and Elliot. The room is priced currently at £509 pcm plus bills (on average around £80-100 pcm). It's amazing value for this area. The house itself is great, and has a really spacious downstairs living area and a tiered back garden with terrace. The sunsets are lovely in summer.
As a house we enjoy a social, happy atmosphere, but obviously we are all working adults and lead our own lives too. There's often TV being watched downstairs - world cups, top gear, we just like to hang out. We like to keep the place tidy as much as possible but it's very much not spotless. We all like a drink and do go out on occasion, but this is definitely not a party house I’m afraid!
There are no pets allowed as such....however, the contract has included a clause that specifically allows a hamster to live here. He's great. The landlord and owners have been really engaged and reasonable throughout the tenancy, which has been really good.
There is on-street parking if you get a permit from the council. Waiting lists aren’t too long round here, and it’s around £160 for a year. There is a lovely, tiered garden, which is used to grow vegetables etc., and it's a great outdoor space in the summer. The house is a 2-minute walk from Preston Park, where there is a velodrome, cricket club, tennis and basketball courts and cafes. The 5B bus takes just over 10 minutes to get into town. It’s a lovely part of town and feels out of the fray, and has all the shops you would want. There’s an Indian Takeaway, fish and chip shop, an off-license and general store, deli, coffee shop, pet shop/vet and a carpet shop(!?) at the end of the road.
We ideally need someone to move in within the next few weeks (30th September latest). If you think you’d be compatible with what you’ve read, send me a message! We'd like to chat and have you to visit the house in person to see if we would get on and show you the house properly!
There are a few more details on the house below:
- Prices above do NOT include bills. Bills usually come to approx. £100 per month.
- Bedroom available is numbers 4 on the floor plan. The photo is unfurnished - at the moment it's furnished, of course, but this photo gives a better impression of the room.
- Décor is largely wooden with neutral walls (It’s very nice).
- The room may be part furnished but this is unconfirmed.
- There is bike storage. There is a spare bike wall clip in the living space, and a rudimentary DIY built bike shed in front of the house which can accommodate 1-2 bikes.
- There is a deposit requirement (will get precise details soon) and referencing procedure that must be completed prior to moving in.
- You have to be able to prove that your annual salary is at least 30 x your rent (currently 30 X 509 = £15,270).
- You must be in full time employment
- There are different stipulations if you are self-employed, which we can discuss.
- Council Tax Band is D.
