Description
We are looking for 2 new housemates in our 4-bed, 4-level house off Lewes Road. Preference is for either 2 women or 1 woman & 1 man, and couples that fit these specs are also welcome to enquire (though a couple would have to take both rooms rather than share one).
We’re Ailbhe (she/hers), a 25-year-old Irish PhD student with an affinity for thrifting and Alex (he/him), a Millennial-core Leicester born 33-year-old performing arts lecturer/researcher with a vast array of colourful shoes.
This is a LGBTQIA+ friendly household as we’re both infected with the “woke mind virus,” and we’re so politically intolerant that we’d like to live with other Lefties please (honestly this is Brighton, what do you expect). We’re not a house that is emotionally co-dependent on each other’s company, and we don’t weirdly ignore each other either. While this definitely isn’t a party house, you can absolutely have guests over! We also like an occasional house movie with shared food, the odd gig, and a semi-regular post-work drink as Ailbhe continues her quest to find the best pint of Guinness in Brighton. The age range we're after for new tenants is 24-34; no undergrad students please, but postgrads welcome! It's no smoking inside, but you're welcome to do so in the garden.
The lower ground floor/basement has an open-plan living/dining room with connected kitchen, with access to our back garden (we’re in the slow process of making the living room/garden look as good as possible within the confines of rental life, so brownie points for any green fingers). The ground floor has 2 bathrooms, both with showers, you'll both share the largest one (which has a bath). The first floor is where the 2 rooms up for grabs are, and then Alex is on the top floor, like Rochester’s mad wife in Jane Eyre (spoiler warning).
Bills are inclusive of water, heating, gas, internet, council tax (band C), and TV license. We make a communal effort to keep the place clean, though we’re not militant on this. Both rooms also have basic furnishings (bed frame, mattress, some storage).
Successful applicants will need to provide our landlady with the last 3 months of bank statements, their last 3 payslips, proof of residency, and pass a credit check. The holding fee is £150. Security deposit is 1 month's rent. The move in date of 14th May is pretty fixed as each room is rented separately, though you could maybe nudge our landlady to be a few days later.
We’re available for viewings from 6pm on the evenings of Monday 28th April and Thursday 1st May. Let us know if you’d like to book in a time, and tell us something about you or just have a completed Spareroom profile for us to check out - due to enquiry overload, we'll probably not respond to enquiries with no info. or to peeps that don't meet our criteria as stated on the ad.
