Situated in a well-connected area close to Fiveways and the Lewes Road.

Suitable for a single professional or a couple looking for a mid-term stay.

I am planning to spend the next 6-10 months away from home, so I am looking for someone or a couple who want(s) to live here as their own home while I am away.

This might suit someone who needs a place to stay while in a chain moving home, someone looking to move to the area and spending time getting to know the area first, or someone based in Brighton for several months for other reasons.

The maisonette

The upper of two maisonettes converted in this Victorian building in 2016, and re-decorated in 2024, the flat is modern and in great condition. It has a private entrance from the street.

The first floor includes a full bathroom with bathtub, and a large open-plan kitchen-dining-living area. The kitchen is integrated with washing machine, dishwasher, fridge and freezor.

The second floor has a double bedroom with standard double bed, and a single bedroom and/or office with a 4ft bed and an adjustable desk (electric) for sitting or standing.

Visitors often comment on how light and homely the place feels.

The flat is furnished, and the kitchen can be left fully equipped, but I am also happy to discuss this further and either leave or remove items. I will empty bookshelves, cupboards, wardrobes etc. so they will all be for your use.

*Please note there are stairs from the street to the door, and then slightly steeper stairs from the door up to the first floor of the flat, which could make it unsuitable for some.

The area

Less than a ten-minute walk from the lovely Fiveways area and from the Lewes Road, as well as close to local shops and facilities, this is a well-connected location.

Fiveways offers a large variety of shops including a local butcher, grocery shop and two bakeries, as well as a hairdresser, post office and restaurants.

On the Lewes Road there is a large Sainsbury’s supermarket, and multiple shops, cafes and restaurants.

Closer to home, there is a row of shops at the end of the road covering all the basics too: A pharmacy, post office, corner shop, barbers, Chinese take away and fish & chip shop.

Best of all there is a community-run (vegan) refill shop only a few doors away that has a huge variety of household and store cupboard items, which means you’re never caught out for basics.

Transport/Connectivity

There is a bus stop less than a 2-minute walk from the front door which runs regularly into central Brighton. For the university, or heading East towards Lewes, busses run frequently from the Lewes Road, and the London Road train station is a 10-minute walk away for trains down the coast to Seaford and Eastbourne.

Parking / Cycling

There is free on-street parking in this area. You can’t always find a space right outside, but I always manage to park within the block.

A bike can be attached to the rail outside the flat or kept in the entrance hall.

A little about me

I am a woman in my late thirties. I was born in Brighton and grew up in the area, though lived abroad for many years as an adult. I have lived in this flat for 7 years and absolutely love the flat and the area.

Unfortunately, I got long-covid in 2022 and then developed ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome which led me to have to leave work last year. I want to make the most of this situation by spending some time living slowly elsewhere in UK and abroad where I can visit friends and brush up on my Arabic language skills. As a history nerd, I became particularly interested in the Middle East when I discovered how many amazing archaeological sites they have, which led me to start learning Arabic about 15 years ago.

I am very unlikely to be around much at all during this time, but the main thing to note would be that I or an immediate family member would like to drop in every 3-4 weeks to collect my post, and myself or a family member will be here for ½ a day to oversee the annual service of the fire safety sprinkler system sometime in the Spring (for which the serviceperson will need to access the eaves in the double bedroom where it is located).

In terms of the timeframe, I have some flexibility because I have the option to return fully or stay away longer, but hope to be back by January 2027. However, if you move in and then find that you want to stay a little longer, we can discuss that option and how it could work for both/all of us.

The most important thing is that this is a home and not a flat set up to make a profit. My family all live in the area, so if there are any issues they are around to help out, and I would be glad to support you keep everything in great working condition so it stays a welcoming home for you and for me.
