Description

Housemate Invited!

We are looking for a compatible being to take up the spare bedroom in our shared home. We are on the Hove/Portslade border in a spacious, Edwardian town house.
The house is split over 3 floors and rented from a private landlord.
Our housemate of 3 years has just moved away, so the third room is becoming free.
The bedroom is part furnished, but we are avid and experienced Freecyclers, and could assist in helping you get essentials freely/cheaply if there is something you need. Currently has double bed, bookcase, table, chair and shelves. We have permission from the landlord to drill holes, and construct/create our own spaces, on the condition we remove any structures and fill holes when we leave.

Travel / Transport / Amenities

The number 1 bus route runs regularly and late into the night.
Portslade train station is at the top of the road.
Supermarkets and a plethora of shops are all within a couple of minutes walk.
Some are 24hr.

The Admin

We’re awaiting confirmation on an exact date the room will be free by; currently expected to be November 30th. There may be some wiggle room on the move in date if you negotiated this with our very reasonable landlord.
Our landlord does require a previous landlord reference, a credit check and either proof of employment OR a guarantor. This admin process would need to be completed before moving in.
The contract is for 6 months initially, then moves to a rolling monthly contract with a one-month notice period.
Rent is £ 530 per month and our water/gas/electric/internet bills work out around £150 max each per month inclusive of council tax Band B.

About us

Our home is a sanctuary. We are both employed in physically demanding roles, and like our home to be a place of rest and respite. We enjoy a quiet and peaceful space.
We are both non-drinkers, and would prefer a dry household. That said, we’re happy to make the occasional exception for special celebrations (birthdays, xmas etc).

I am a PA for people with invisible disabilities, an Aromatherapist and I have a regular long-established yoga practice. I am also a massage therapist, so will have occasional clients into the living room for treatments: this will be arranged ahead of time, so can give you notice in advance. My Partner Jon is a street cleaning operative, nature lover and RPG GM.

Our preference would be to live with someone who also leaves the house for work. While working from home is not necessarily a deal breaker, especially if it’s only occasional, please do get in touch to discuss.

For our leisure time we enjoy reading, cooking, hiking, foraging, board games, tabletop RPGs, and offbeat movies.

We do have some quirks we’d like you to know and consider in advance.
we’ll also endeavour to be mindful of your quirks too and will try to mutually find ways to meet particular needs as best as we can.

We love the fresh air, and having windows wide-open as often as possible; we rarely put the heating on except when particularly cold in winter. Please do bear this in mind; as long as you don’t mind a cool environment and are happy to wear warm clothing, hot water bottle or extra blankets during the winter months, this may be a good fit for you.
I am very sensitive to synthetic fragrances. Body spray, commercial cleaning products, reed diffusers and pressurised air misters give me headaches and make me feel nauseas. Essential oils, roll-on deodorant and natural incense are welcome.
We are both quite sensitised to sound also, both a blessing and a curse. While we experience euphoria through music and trance to rhythm, we can feel overwhelmed by loud tv/radio, or sudden and intrusive noises (e. g. slammed doors) especially when trying to rest/sleep. We manage this with white noise or earplugs, but please bear this in mind when deciding if you are a good match. For instance, if you are willing to wear headphones while e. g. watching tv/gaming etc at night, that would be appreciated.

We welcome the chance to get to know you, and hear about any needs you might have in either home or housemates.

If you are ready to make a change of home and either resonate with our wants, needs and quirks above, or can extend courtesy in those arenas, then we invite you get in touch - by email to begin with - and would love to run through any initial questions first.
If we feel you’d be a compatible housemate, we’d then like to arrange a mutually agreeable time for you to come and view the home and share a cuppa.

Any questions, thoughts, concerns or ideas are very welcome.

We look forward to hearing from you!
