Description
Double and a single room available from 1st November (or potentially sooner by negotiation) in a friendly community-oriented houseshare in the Ebley area of Stroud. You would be sharing with me and potentially one other person. I'm a self-employed teacher and musician in my 40s from a global majority heritage with an interest in social justice, creativity, nature, walking and spirituality.
I am seeking the space to be a welcoming space to people who may experience marginalisation within mainstream society in the UK including being a BIPOC/ LGBTQAI+/ neurodivergent-friendly and migrant-friendly household. Although I would love it to be disability-friendly, I'm sorry to say you'll need to be OK with stairs to live here - the room and the bathroom are on the first floor and access to the ground floor is up 5 steps from the street. Please think about whether you'd actively like to be part of a household where difference and diversity are welcome. If it's a yes so far, read on for the details and get in touch if you have any questions around this or anything else.
The rental price does not include bills - factor in between £110 and £170 per month per person in addition as a contribution to council tax (band B), water, electricity and gas bills and broadband based on moderate heating use. The rent element is lower than the Local Housing Allowance for Stroud District so that housing benefit or UC may cover up to 100% of the rent if you are eligible.
The double room is a spacious south-facing double room on the first floor with views over Selsley Common and sanded pine floors. It's one of the warmest rooms in winter and keeps the heat pretty well. The windows are recently double glazed sash. It has some basic furnishings including a comfy double bed (not a futon as in some of the pics) a large desk, a bookcase and a clothes rail.
The single room is smaller with space for a single bed, a clothes rail, some shelving and a dresser. Also views over Selsley Common and sanded pine floors and double glazed windows. The plaster has some cosmetic blemishes.
The kitchen and dining room and sitting room are all shared and there is a fairly large grassy garden with a veg patch. There is fibre broadband internet - connecting to devices through ethernet is preferred where possible and there's an ethernet cable in the rooms. I can explain the why and the how a bit if we meet for a chat.
If you have a car, parking is on street. There is a bus stop 200m away with routes to Stroud centre and Gloucester. It's 1.5 miles from both Stroud and Stonehouse stations (trains to Gloucester and London) and 7 miles from Cam and Dursley station (trains to Bristol). It's 3.5 miles from the M5. There's an off-road flat walk or cycle to Stroud town centre along the canal.
The location is on the edge of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and 250m away from canal, river and meadow and the Cotswold Way. There are off-road walks in multiple directions - wooded walks around Doverow Hill and beyond to Standish Woods and Haresfield Beacon. There's a couple of nearby parks and several food shops within walking distance. There's a cafe and a pub within 5 minutes' walk.
I am vegan. If you eat meat and fish, it's not a deal breaker but we could have a chat about how to share the kitchen together.
It's a peaceful home set back from the road. I'm keen for it to be a friendly and homely atmosphere. If you like the sound of this, get in touch to fix a chat about how living together would work. It would be really helpful to hear a bit about you, what you are looking for and needing, and what you like about the ad.
