Description
Single room available from 1st January (or potentially sooner by negotiation) in a friendly community-oriented houseshare in the Ebley area of Stroud, sharing with 2 people with interests in social justice, music, creativity, nature, walking, feminism, antiracism, counselling and spirituality.
We are seeking the space to be a welcoming space to people who may experience marginalisation within mainstream society in the UK including being a BIPOC/ LGBTQAI+/ neurodivergent-friendly and migrant-friendly household.
We're seeking it to be a space where people value connection and interconnection, care, communication and kindness in terms of how we live together. We're also seeking folx who would actively be up for engaging with other in the house.
Although we would love it to be disability-friendly, you'll need to be OK with stairs to live here - the room and the bathroom are on the first floor and access to the ground floor is up 5 steps from the street. Please think about whether you'd actively like to be part of a household where difference and diversity are welcome. If it's a yes so far, read on for the details and get in touch if you are interested or have any questions around this or anything else.
The rental price does not include bills - factor in between £115 and £170 per month per person in addition as a contribution to council tax (band B), water, electricity and gas bills and broadband based on moderate heating use. The rent element is lower than the Local Housing Allowance for Stroud District so that housing benefit or UC may cover up to 100% of the rent if you are eligible.
The single room has a single bed, a clothes rail, a table, shelving and a dresser. Views over Selsley Common and sanded pine floors and double glazed windows. The plaster has some cosmetic blemishes.
The kitchen and dining room and sitting room are all shared and there is a fairly large grassy garden with a veg patch. There is fibre broadband internet - connecting to devices through ethernet is preferred where possible and there's an ethernet cable in the rooms. We can talk about the why and the how a bit if we meet for a chat.
If you have a car, parking is on street. There is a bus stop 200m away with routes to Stroud centre and Gloucester. It's 1.5 miles from both Stroud and Stonehouse stations (trains to Gloucester and London) and 7 miles from Cam and Dursley station (trains to Bristol). It's 3.5 miles from the M5. There's an off-road flat walk or cycle to Stroud town centre along the canal.
The location is on the edge of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and 250m away from canal, river and meadow and the Cotswold Way. There are off-road walks in multiple directions - wooded walks around Doverow Hill and beyond to Standish Woods and Haresfield Beacon. There's a couple of nearby parks and several food shops within walking distance. There's a cafe and a pub within 5 minutes' walk.
Current residents are mostly vegetarian/ vegan. If you eat meat and fish, it's not a deal breaker but we could have a chat about how to share the kitchen together.
It's a peaceful home set back from the road. We're keen for it to be a friendly and homely atmosphere.
If you like the sound of this, get in touch to fix a chat about how living together would work. It would be really helpful to hear some things about you that you are willing to share including what you are looking for and needing, what you like about the ad, and how it might be for you to be with the values bits of the ad like 'community-oriented' and diversity-friendly.
Whatever you are willing to share about yourself will really help in the process of figuring out. If you would prefer to record a voicenote, let us know. We may suggest a phone call as a next step once you've made contact - please bear with us if you don't get a response right away. We want to take care over finding somebody who feels like a good fit, acknowledging it's a big thing to live together. It would be helpful if you could say something about your availability to have a chat in the next week or so.
