Description
I am renting a small double bedroom in my house. It's a home, not a rental. It's on a quiet residential street, with a garden, close to public transport.
The house is located in Burnage, M19. It's a 12 minute walk to Mauldreth Road train station, 13 minute walk to Levenshume train station, and 3 minute walk to both 197 and 172 buses. 3 minute cycle to the Fallowfield loop - if you're a cyclist you know it's a blessing.
I have done quite a bit of work on the house over the last couple of years, so it feels cozy and homely. There is a large living/dining room which gets the sunlight in the morning and in the evening. There's a wood burning stove, TV, good hi-fi system. The bathroom has just been done, with a couple of nice quirky touches, with lots of space for your toiletries. The kitchen is pretty nice, with a big 5-burner gas cooker with two gas ovens and a grill. All the standard kitchen items you'd expect, fridge/freezer, etc. It's a quiet road, so there's no traffic noise, in fact you'll be waking up to the sound of birds singing. There's a nice garden with a greenhouse, so if you're into gardening or just like being close to plants, you'd really enjoy it.
The bedroom has a decent double bed, a few shelves, a hanging rail, a nice writing desk and drawers. There's storage inside the bed. If you need to store more stuff, no problem - there's space in the attic, in the larders and in the corridor. The bedroom gets the afternoon/evening sun. The window faces a quiet residential street. If you'd like more floor space, at expense of having a smaller bed, I'm happy to replace it with a single bed at no expense to you.
My current two housemates are really, really great. Chloe is a an amazing musician and a keyboard player, who works in a cafe in the Northern Quarter by day. Hannes is studying to be a psychotherapist part-time alongside his counseling work. He has the best cat in the world called Buffy. She's mega friendly, possibly the coolest cat in the world. Apparently she's not great with other cats though, so if you have a cat we might struggle to accommodate, We are all very friendly with each other, frequently share meals, living space and occasionally go out together, but also very much have our own lives. I really want to maintain this friendly social dynamic - we've probably all lived in house shares where people pass like ships in the night and avoid each other. This house ain't one of them!
I have set up my room in the attic, but I expect to hardly be there - I am living in East Anglia at the moment. I am a keen cyclist so I would welcome and encourage cyclists. I don't crank up the heating, and prefer to stay warm using layers and localized heating, or just keeping active. I like to maintain a policy of "open doors" and "the more the merrier", so I'd like the house to be a social one, with friends coming and going (within reason). At the same time I do like peace and quiet, so not a loud party house. Think gatherings, rather than raves. You're welcome to have friends/partners/dates round and staying over.
A bit more about me - I'm an electronics engineer by trade, now moved to natural building. I'll be working with hempcrete, which is a mix of hemp straw and lime binder which makes durable, breathable, thermally insulative walls in buildings with minimum carbon footprint, and no synthetic materials. I am maker and a tinkerer, I've done a lot of the work in the house myself and I would expect people living here to treat the place and other housemates with respect. That means general courtesy, keeping the noise down (unless you all agree to have a big party in which case crack on!), and maintaining general tidiness.
All the fixed bills are included - water, broadband, council tax.
I will cover the standing charge of the electricity and gas, the actual energy cost will be split between the occupiers. This system has worked very well for us, even in winder the bill has only been approx £110, split between 2 people - very affordable. The broadband is Virgin cable, fast and reliable.
All the details we can discuss in person. The room is available from the 29th of April. P. S. if you're looking rather urgently please get in touch on my number shown on the ad, via WhatApp. Looking forward to meeting you. Dmitry
