Description
Stylish and spacious double bedroom in a period three-bed semi in the vibrant neighbourhood of Levenshulme, South Manchester.
The room:
The private room offers a double bed (great mattress!), bedside table and lamp, half a double wardrobe (I store some things in there but they’re bagged up separately), half a chest of drawers, a small desk and chair with a lamp, and comfy armchair for relaxing. It has a blackout blind at the window. You’re more than welcome to leave stuff here over the weekend.
A summary:
I’m a freelance journalist who mostly works from home.
The house has a shared kitchen, dining area, and bathroom, so we’ll naturally cross paths — and I’m always happy for a quick hello.
That said, I really value a calm and independent home environment, so this would suit someone who’s friendly, considerate, and comfortable doing their own thing.
The spare room is perfect for anyone looking to enjoy short-stay comfort and convenience, amid a lively local scene with excellent transport links.
For example, a PhD student, academic, or guest lecturer, or a professional who works in Manchester but wants to go home/elsewhere at the weekends.
I’m straight but a strong ally of the LGBTQ+ community – all welcome.
Shared spaces:
* A single bathroom with toilet, bath and overhead shower.
* A newly converted kitchen/diner with range cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, espresso machine, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine (in the adjoining utility).
* Cosy living room with Smart TV and Chromecast access for streaming services.
* Back garden/patio space with garden furniture is ideal in warmer weather
Free on-street parking available (I park directly outside the house but there are usually free spaces up and down the street, within a house or two).
Transport and local area:
* Several bus routes are a 10-minute walk away and run frequently – into Manchester City Centre, Stockport, the hospital and university campuses.
* Levenshulme train station is a 10-minute walk away - it is not served by the tram network.
* The high street (A6/Stockport Road) and surrounding areas have loads of amenities – nice parks, local library, a couple of gyms, various supermarkets, cafes, bars, renowned antique village and a nature reserve.
* Levenshulme is also fairly well located for visiting other popular neighbourhoods in South Manchester, including the Heatons, Chorlton, Didsbury, Fallowfield and Burnage by bus, train, a short taxi ride or longer walk.
Rent includes:
* Weekly cleaning + bed linen/towels
* Tea, coffee, condiments & spices
* All bills (Virgin Media Wi-Fi, gas, electric, water, TV licence. (Council tax not relevant as you will be registered at your home address)
House rules:
* No parties or gatherings
* Quiet hours 10pm–8am
* No smoking/vaping indoors (£1000 cleaning fee if breached)
* No outdoor shoes to be worn inside
* Lost key replacement: £30
About me:
I’m a 40-something freelance business journalist and copywriter. I work from home most of the time (the third bedroom is my office, which is off limits), with occasional shifts as a BBC radio producer, when I will be out all day working in MediaCity.
I’m very social and out a lot but keep a pretty low-key existence during the week – If I’m home in the evenings I’ll run, cook, eat, read or watch TV and am in bed pretty early Sunday-Thursday.
Interests-wise, I like the usual stuff – travelling, live music, films, getting out in nature as much as possible, yoga, running, meeting friends for drinks or dinner.
