Description
🌈 2B1B apartment in M1 – looking for one flatmate
I’m looking for one flatmate to share a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment in M1 7AX, right between Manchester Gay Village and Oxford Road. It’s around a 10-minute walk to the University of Manchester / Oxford Road.
The apartment is £1,375 pcm in total. There are two bedrooms of different sizes, so the exact rent split can be discussed fairly depending on which room you prefer.
🏠 About the flat
The building itself is relatively old, but the apartment has been recently and nicely refurbished.
* East-facing apartment with excellent natural light
* Windows overlooking an internal courtyard — very quiet
* Spacious living room, kitchen and balcony
* Fully equipped kitchen
* Wooden flooring throughout, no carpet
* Free access to the building’s gym and swimming pool
* Both bedrooms are a good size; the larger bedroom has particularly generous space
* Excellent location for UoM, Oxford Road and Manchester city centre
I’ve viewed the property in person and was quite impressed by the overall condition, especially considering the age of the building.
📑 Tenancy / application
The property is being rented through a local Manchester letting agent, found via Rightmove. They currently have around 4.7★ Google reviews, and my communication with them so far has been very professional.
The tenancy will follow the normal local letting process, including reference checks and Right to Rent checks.
I have already paid the holding deposit, so the property is effectively secured. The remaining step is to find a suitable flatmate who can join the tenancy. Rent and the tenancy deposit would then be shared between us.
You would need to have a valid eVisa / Right to Rent and be able to pass the standard referencing process, with no significant adverse credit history.
I currently have a guarantor available. However, if you are a funded PhD student and can provide official evidence of your funding/studentship, there may be a possibility of proceeding without a guarantor, subject to the agent’s approval.
👋 About me
I’m a male PhD student at the University of Manchester and have been living in the UK for several years.
* 🌈 LGBTQ+ friendly
* Early sleeper / early riser
* Clean and considerate
* Non-smoker indoors
* No pets at the moment
* I enjoy cooking
* I occasionally invite friends over, but I’m not a party-at-home person
* I’m fairly social and don’t spend all my time at home
* Happy to share household items, kitchen equipment, etc. and keep track of shared expenses transparently
Having lived in the UK for quite a long time, I’m also pretty comfortable dealing with landlords/agents, bills, utilities and the general practical side of renting.
🫶 Who I’m hoping to find
Ideally, I’m looking for someone who is:
* A student, especially a postgraduate student / PhD student
* LGBTQ+ friendly and respectful of different identities and lifestyles
* Clean, considerate and reasonably organised
* Not a heavy party-at-home person
* Comfortable with sharing some aspects of everyday life rather than simply living as two strangers
I’m particularly hoping to find an East Asian flatmate (Chinese / Hong Kong / Taiwanese / Japanese / Korean, etc.), although I’m open to getting to know anyone who feels like a good fit.
I’d ideally like the flat to have a friendly, somewhat family-like atmosphere — sharing meals occasionally, cooking together, chatting about everyday life, or helping each other out — while still respecting each other’s privacy and personal space.
If this sounds like something that could work for you, feel free to message me with a little bit about yourself, your course/work, and your expected move-in date.
