Description
*PLEASE NOTE* we just have the largest double room available to rent (room 1), please send messages with some information about yourself if you don't have it on your profile as the two other tenants will be helping to pick the new housemate once we have done the viewings :)
We have done a complete rebuild of an 1880's property into an eco house, and have two double and one single/occasional double rooms to rent, due to a moving to Norway.
DOUBLE ROOM available 23/12/24
A very large double room with plenty of light from three big windows. Comes with a king sized bed with storage, a wardrobe and bedside draws but plenty of room for more furniture if you wish including a big desk for working from home.
*TAKEN* DOUBLE ROOM 2
The double room is reasonably large, light and airy with a window opening out over the back garden. There is an airing cupboard, wardrobe, and space for a desk and chest of drawers.
*TAKEN* SINGLE/OCCASIONAL DOUBLE ROOM
Although it is the smallest, this is our favourite bedroom of the house. It has a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, reclaimed wooden floor and a large window that opens out on to a green meadow roof and views over the garden - perfect for soaking up the sun in the summer. There is a single bed with storage drawers which pulls out into a double, a single wardrobe and storage baskets up on the beams. There is also easy access to the loft from inside the room.
Everything in the house has been rebuilt, it is super insulated, mainly powered by solar electric and thermal panels and has a heat recovery ventilation system that takes warm damp air from the kitchen and bathrooms, and puts the heat into fresh air pumped into the lounge and bedrooms, keeping everything warm, fresh and free of damp. The downstairs has slate flagstone floor with underfloor heating downstairs, while the upstairs is carpet and reclaimed wood. All doors and windows are new, every room has it's own touch screen heating control, lots of LED lighting and sockets, and every wall and ceiling has been packed with sound insulation with heavy fire doors to try to keep noise down.
The lounge and dining room are very big and open plan with rustic charm and a wood burning stove in an old red brick fireplace which heats the hot water and central heating in the winter, solar panels provide heat for the rest of the year (don't worry, there is a gas boiler which kicks in if there is no sun and you don't want to light a fire).
A large kitchen and utility room with breakfast bar has a big range cooker with induction hob, oak cabinets and solid oak worktop, perfect if you like your cooking. There is a large shower room upstairs and a wetroom downstairs with a rain shower. There is a big conservatory, again with underfloor heating, with just has a small dining table at the moment.
The lounge and conservatory open onto a small patio which will provide easy access to wood for the fire. There is a larger patio at the back of the conservatory leading on to the garden.
The back garden is very large with a big shed at the end for storing bikes and outdoor equipment. The garden backs out on to a secure yard with garages which is where we store our kayaks and sailing boat so there is some garage space potentially available. Off street parking is also available here too for an extra charge as well as on street resident's permit holder parking. The train station is less than 5 minutes walk away.
Water, electric, gas, council tax and 200mb broadband are included.
We have moved to Oslo because Rebecca has a contract at the university, so we will only be back a few times a year. My parents live next door and also have use of the garden, but they are super nice neighbours and should be able to help if something needs sorting with the house.
We are very easy going but like to keep things in good nick, happy for the house to be used and enjoyed as it should, "lived in" shall we say, but having spent 5 years of our evenings and weekends building the place, we are only interested in people we know will respect and look after the result of all our hard graft!
We would appreciate people who have some thought towards the environment who avoid wasting food, water and energy and can cope with using a recycling bin properly! We love adventure and outdoor sports and would be very pleased to share the house with anyone who has similar interests.
