Low cost accommodation in Southampton SO15

An older lady with reduced memory and mobility is seeking a Sharer for her home to give them a mix of 15 hours’ help and company each week in exchange for the low-cost accommodation.

She is well supported by carers but would value and enjoy the friendly reassurance and company of having someone around her home in the evenings and overnight. Some general practical help around the home – such as picking up shopping, cooking up to four meals each week, light cleaning and tidying, help with Zoom calls to family, walking the dog at weekends, and ad hoc other practical help, reminders and errands, spending some time together– would also be really appreciated.

The accommodation on offer is a double bedroom furnished with a double bed and wardrobe. Other furniture can be arranged. There is a bathroom with shower (mainly for the Sharers sole use, sometimes shared with visiting family), and shared use of the kitchen, sitting room and garden.

The house is in an excellent location in a lovely development, approx.10 minutes’ walk from the station and 15 minutes’ walk from the centre of the city, and 10 minutes’ walk from the open spaces of Southampton Common.

The lady used to be an occupational therapist. She used to enjoy craft activities and to read The Guardian and she often listens to Radio 4 (eg Desert Island Discs), watches TV (eg crime dramas, The Repair Shop, programs about dogs/hospitals, the news). She used to enjoy cooking although not so much recently. She has a friendly dog – a Jack Russell poodle.

As a Sharer you are free to work or study as long as you have enough spare time to give the agreed level of company and support. The ideal Sharer will be a positive, friendly, kind, helpful and reliable non-smoker who ideally shares some of the person’s interests.
