Description
Hello! I'm looking for a flatmate.
THE HEADLINES
* Elstree & Borehamwood, two-person flat
* available from 1 Oct
* c. £880 a month for rent + water (for the larger of the two rooms)
* energy and internet come to about £60 per person per month
* with one student and one not-a-student, council tax has been £129 a month (Hertsmere Band C)
* queer, vegan and neurodivergent friendly — and we THINK practise friendly, but in fairness, haven’t pushed it
PLUSES
* big room with lots of light
* v nice landlords
* quiet
* if you’re real quick, you can get from the front door to being-on-a-train in under two minutes
* within walking distance of actual countryside
* lots of candles + hell of a lot of plants
* toastie- and waffle-maker (would highly recommend)
* 3 mins to Sainsbury’s, 15 mins to the biggest Tesco you’ve ever seen
* we have a cello
MINUSES
* the dryer doesn’t work
* it’s zone 6, and you can’t vote for mayor because it’s not technically London
* the gorgeous harp is sadly not mine and isn’t staying
* I occasionally turn the living room into a DIY photography studio (but promise to coordinate with you first)
* I may try to talk to you about US politics, Caroline Shaw, extended cello techniques, film cameras, rewilding, Sylvan Esso and/or approaches to re-orchestrating musical theatre, but if you adopt a sorta vague glazed expression I *usually* shut up
* the cello doesn’t work either
I AM—
* 23, from Scotland and a composer — I graduated from Guildhall last year
* living a weird freelance life of composing, arranging, engraving, teaching, writing, producing and taking photos
* either absolutely into cooking or absolutely not into cooking depending on the deadline situation
* I… hope and trust… quiet and laidback and friendly?
* definite night owl
* filled with existential dread, but, like, in a charmingly self-deprecating way
TRAVEL
* basically as close to the station as it’s possible to be
* Thameslink takes you to West Hampstead, Kentish Town, Kings X, Farringdon, etc.
* c. 25 mins to Kings X and about 43 mins to Liverpool Street
* 30 mins to Hampstead Heath
THE CONTRACT, BILLS and other MISCELLANY
* last year, the rent was £1,650 — we split that £787.50/£862.50 based on room sizes
* the rent is increasing to £1,690 — split tbd?
* the landlords have asked that a new contract is agreed by 1 Sep
a non-student would be ideal for council tax reasons, but that’s not essential
* would prefer a non-smoker
* sadly no pets (due to allergies)
Let me know if you’d like to come visit!
