Description
We are looking for a female lodger for a sunny, self-contained, first-floor studio apartment in our 5-bed semi-detached family home in central St Albans (council tax band E). We are a family of 3 (mother age 49, sons age 13 and 15) living on a quiet, neighbourly street. The rent is £850/month, all bills included.
The room is available from 1 December 2025. We have stated a rental period of 1 month min. and 6 months max. but our lodger could extend the contract on a 3-monthly or 6-monthly basis by agreement. We also welcome enquiries from women who wish to lodge for part of the week (the price would be adapted accordingly).
Entrances (access to street from both front and back of the house), side path, patio and garden are shared. Our lodger could also have use of our 2nd driveway and the washing machine in the family kitchen.
We are 5 mins from St Albans town centre, 5 mins from St Albans Hospital, 15 mins from the main train station, and with access from the front and back of the house.
The room contains an inbuilt wardrobe, en suite bathroom and kitchenette.
Large room (20 sqm): double bed, bedside table, freestanding drawers, desk, desk lamp, desk chair, folding kitchen table and chairs, cupboard with small fridge, built-in wardrobe, soft deep-pile carpet. Bedding and towels available. (Furniture can be removed/replaced/supplemented as required)
En suite (3.25 sqm): large shower, toilet, sink with storage unit, tiled walls, LVT flooring.
Kitchenette (1.92 sqm): sink unit, worktop, combination microwave (incl. bake, roast and grill), 2-ring portable electric hob, under-counter slimline fridge with freezer box, kitchen drawers, wall shelves, corner wall unit, kettle, toaster, LVT flooring, splashback tiles, extractor fan, fire door, fire extinguisher. (Kitchen items can be removed/replaced/supplemented as required)
I'm a translator, working in London 3 days and from home 2 days a week. I also do freelance literary projects. My sons are at school in St Albans. We have busy lives and are all in and out at different times of the day, but we're generally all home in the evenings, and we're a friendly bunch. The boys spend 1 night a week and every other weekend with their dad in London. They sometimes have friends over and are lively but not too noisy. We occasionally look after our neighbour's (very cute!) dog for a few hours.
We would like a female lodger for safeguarding reasons (would consider 2 females sharing), and would in addition require a DBS check (which we will pay for). I will also provide the lodger with my DBS.
