Description
Looking for a new housemate for a double room that will soon be available in this bungalow in Newtonmore. I am a conservation professional working for the RSPB and have been renting the other room in this property since 2023.
The room itself is a small double, that is furnished with a bed, wardrobe, a drawer/storage unit, and I have also added a small desk and desk chair.
The house has an open plan kitchen/dining/living area that again is furnished. The kitchen has all appliances (oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher etc) and is well stocked with crockery.
The landlord lives next door and is very friendly and helpful. Rent is paid on the first of each month and is £375, which includes broadband and council tax.
Disclaimer: the heating and hot water system is somewhat complex and costly. There is a hot water tank which supplies hot water including for the radiators and the shower. This tank has to be heated up as and when hot water is needed, and this can be done in several ways: using an immersion heater (which takes several hours), using an electric boiler (which heats up water for a shower in about 20-30 minutes but which is very costly to run so we only use it for showers, not for heating), or using the wood burning stove which is connected to a back-boiler. Typically the best way to heat the house is using the fire - we buy loads of logs from a local supplier and typically a trailer load costs £110-140 and lasts 2-3 months. The energy bills are paid by direct debit from my account on the 20th of each month, and currently the direct debit is currently £171 a month. Just want to make sure any prospective tenant is aware of this so it is not a nasty surprise...
There is parking available, either in the driveway, on street, or in a free car park round the corner. Newtonmore train station is about a 10 minute walk. There is a co-op in Newtonmore or bigger shops in Aviemore which is a 25 drive.
I am friendly, respectful and clean and tidy and am looking for a flatmate who is the same and who contributes equally to communal tasks and costs. I enjoy running, hiking, going to the gym, reading and spending time with friends! I am planning to go away travelling towards the end of the year around October time, so would ideally be looking for a flatmate who would be around until then so I don't have to find someone else but can be flexible with this!
If you are interested in the room, please message and let me know a bit about yourself and how long you'd be looking to stay etc. and we can discuss and potentially arrange a viewing.
