Description

Hi all. I’m looking for a flatmate for the lovely place I rent in Pollokshields, under 10 mins walk away from Maxwell Park. We are close to Dumbreck train station too (about 5 or so mins walk) and there’s a bus stop for the 121 into Shawlands right out front.

The flat itself is in a converted 19c house with 4 other flats. It’s on the top floor of the building (two flights of stairs) and has two floors (bedrooms up top) so unfortunately isn’t wildly accessible. You’d be welcome to use the included parking space at the rear of the property.

Inside, there’s a large living room with a functional log burning stove, and my comfy corner sofa. We are also lucky to have a big kitchen with lots of storage, a dishwasher, an American-style fridge, washing machine and a range cooker.

Your room has the most incredible double -aspect window which opens out totally for views across the gardens and the whole city. It’s a very decent sized double with its own en-suite (loo and sink; the fab shower is in the downstairs bathroom). It’s currently unfurnished so plenty of space to bring your things. The landlady has been very generous in letting me paint/hang things in each room so there’s scope to do that in your own spot too.

The flat itself feels very private; you can’t hear much if anything between the two levels, and there are three bathrooms. We have access to the communal back garden and the right half of the front garden belongs to the flat, for lounging/reading/planting etc.

As for me: I’m an academic at Glasgow Uni. Due to a series of amusingly unfortunate events I am recovering from some surgery and a broken leg, so I am a bit battered and home-bound for a while compared to my usual busy self. I run a dog rescue charity in my “spare” time, love to eat out, go to my favourite spots in Shawlands, go to gigs/cinema, and cook and chat. I like to have friends round for dinner or film watching, and read a lot. My partner has been here more than usual while I’ve been recovering, but typically he stays 1-2 nights a week.

I’m pretty open-minded about folks in general and will be taking viewings from all genders, orientations and professions etc. I am 34 but would consider anyone of any age who wants a proper home rather than a place to crash…but to help see if we are the right fit, here’s a few things that are important to me at home (and I welcome your own list!):

1. Getting on well with the dog (see below)
2. Making sure the kitchen is clean and tidy even if the rest of the house isn’t
3. It would be great to make a pal, but I’d settle for a really decent flatmate!
4. Respecting the neighbours
5. Having a decent sense of humour about things overall.

Your other flatmate is my rescue greyhound, Elgar. He’s six in January, and a wonderfully weird guy (as most hounds are). Mostly he just sleeps between his walks and dinners, but he loves a pat and some snacks. Pros include his lack of attention seeking or barking ,and his general comedic timing; cons include farts and a propensity to want a wee in the small hours. I’m biased, but he’s pretty cute.

I am totally open to mature or grad students, having been one myself. Pets are welcome at the property so long as they get along with Elgar!

Practical details:

Rent: 650 PCM
CTax: Band E so works out 115 ish per person PCM (if you don’t have a student discount)
Internet: fast Sky broadband, never had any issues: 19.50 PCM
Utilities: Scottish Power. Currently c. 80 PCM per person
Gardening/maintenance: between 15 and 25 PCM per person depending on season

Total: c. 885.50 PCM.

Our landlady is friendly, but hands off and has always been super decent and quick to reply with any problems.

The neighbours (there are 4) are lovely and helpful without being in-your-face. They are a little older and appreciate calm and respect of their private and communal spaces.

Send me a message if you think you could be a good fit. I’ll be holding viewings from 7th Jan!

Cheers,

Abi
