Description
Accommodation:
Ok, here’s the fun bit, the flat is on a boat! It’s not a tiny little canal boat, it’s fairly big and is permanently moored on The Thames at Oyster Pier, between Wandsworth Bridge and Battersea Bridge. I’ve lived here for just over a year now, and I love it.
It’s about a 10-15 min walk to Clapham Junction, about 20 mins walk to Battersea Park, and you can walk to the Power Station in about 40 mins. Being right on the river means you’ve got the perfect running stretch on your doorstep too.
The flat itself is a two-bedroom flat, with both bedrooms and a shower room downstairs, and upstairs is an open-plan shared kitchen and living space. The upstairs is fully furnished, but the bedrooms are not, although I may be able to source a spare bed for you.
The rent (which includes most bills) is paid on the 11th of each month. This includes a small contribution to council tax (living on a boat means this only costs roughly £7 a month!). The only additional bill is electricity, since this is on a meter. Electricity costs about £20-30 each in the summer, and £50-60 each in the winter, as the heating is electric.
The first question I get asked about living on a boat is yes, the plumbing is all completely normal!
It’s safe, secure, people on the other boats get to know each other, and there’s a WhatsApp group for the other flats on the boat and one for the pier itself. Usually to tell you that your parcels have been delivered, or the seals are swimming past again :)
My ideal flatmate:
My room is always an explosion of colour but I like to keep the bathroom and the upstairs nice and tidy. It’s a lovely space to come home and relax in, so my perfect flatmate would feel the same!
Personal space is respected, but the occasional hangout/meal would be welcome too, since it's a shared living area/kitchen space.
It's been my quiet, calm retreat from the hustle and bustle of London for over a year now, with gorgeous views across the river!
