Description
We have a double bedroom going in our 4-bed house in Brixton Hill. The room is furnished with a double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers, and you’re welcome to replace any of these with your own furniture if you so wish. The room is on the first floor above the kitchen and is decently light and spacious - enough for remote working with room for your stuff too. The current housemate can leave the mattress for £20 if you’d like to arrange that, but will be taking the desk so you’d need to bring your own!
The house is on a cul-de-sac in Brixton Hill a couple of minutes from the bus stop. We have our own front door, a living room with a dining table and sofa bed, a good size kitchen with two fridges, a bathroom complete with actual shower pressure and three other bedrooms. We also have a small/cute garden which is nice in the warmer months and handy for bikes. We've done various bits of painting and DIY to make the house nicer and the landlord is generally pretty hands off and happy for us to make changes. We're looking for someone who's keen to get involved in helping to make it a nice home!
You’d be living with three of us aged 28-31: Barney & Jessy (a couple) and Stuart, all of us good pals having lived together for a few years. We all originally met through Spareroom in one way or another and we're all friendly and open minded folks. We work near enough 9-5 hours and otherwise we’re often out and about at gigs, the boozer, cinema, talks, walks and whatever else! The house has always been lived in by friends and we want to keep that vibe going where we actually get to know each other rather than being strangers sharing a space. We’ll sometimes sit and chat shite or stick a film on in the evenings, but are also comfortable with our own space.
It’s not a massive house for four people to share and so we need to be on top of keeping the place clean and tidy. We have a weekly cleaning rota and are all proactive in doing our bit to keep on top of stuff, and we would expect the same of someone coming in. It’s also a fairly creaky old house with all of the quirks that come with it, so probably not the best suited for anyone who’s super sensitive to noise. Sharing a space with three others is always gonna throw up the odd challenge or disagreement, but we all do our best to be considerate and we resolve any conflicts like adults and without festering beef (the worst kind!). Bills come to about £150 each on top of rent although may go up given the absolute state of things.
We're looking for someone who's kind and open-minded, up for a laugh as well as up for doing their bit to contribute to the house and treat it like a home. No tories/terfs/general wronguns pls! Also worth saying that we’re not a party house, we have some early starts through the week and it’s important to us to get our Zs in.
The location is super well connected as we have loads of buses running past us just up Brixton Hill which can get you to the tube in 5ish minutes - it's about 15-20 mins on foot. We're about 10 minutes from Brockwell Park which is great in summer and there's plenty of nice pubs and cafes under 5 minutes from us too. There's also a couple of wee supermarkets nearby as well as bigger ones a short bus away in Brixton, and we're also not far from the shops in Streatham Hill.
The room is available from June 1st on a rolling basis and we are looking for someone who wants to stick around and make it a home. Also aware that this kind of rent is increasingly rare in London and would love the room to go to someone who would benefit from this although that’s obviously not a deal breaker. Give us a shout if this sounds like something you’d be into or you’d like to know any more!
