Description
An elderly retired academic with Alzheimer’s disease and hearing loss is seeking a second Sharer for their home to give them a mix of 15 hours’ help and company each week in exchange for the low-cost accommodation. There is already one live-in Sharer living in the home but we are looking for a second Sharer to complement this and for a little additional support and company.
The practical help will include a little shopping, domestic tasks such as light housework, admin/appointments, making phone calls, prompts and reminders, finding things, ad hoc practical help and errands as may be needed but mostly the role is to generally be around to give companionship and a couple of days a week accompany the householder for a walk in the morning.
The accommodation on offer is a good-sized furnished bedroom with a new single bed, built in wardrobe, chest of drawers, desk, and shared use of a shower room. There is also shared use of the kitchen, breakfast room and garden.
The property is conveniently located just 6 minutes’ walk from Tufnell Park tube (Zone 2 Norther Line), 11 minutes’ walk from Gospel Oak overground, and there are also plenty of bus routes nearby.
The lady is very intelligent and has a wide range of interests including science, linguistics, nature, history, ancient civilizations and other cultures, reading detective stories, gardening, classical music… and enjoy a good conversation… and a good sense of humour. She would enjoy the company of someone with an enquiring mind; a mature/postgraduate student could be a very good match.
As a Sharer you are free to work or study as long as you have enough spare time to give the agreed level of company and support. The ideal person will be a positive, friendly, kind, helpful and reliable non-smoker who ideally shares some of the person’s interests. Someone who works who works or studies from home some days, or works part-time, would be ideal – there is ample space in the property for this.
NB Householder has an allergy to strong smells including frying foods, perfume and smelly chemical cleaning products as these give her migraines. There is a hob for cooking in the kitchen, but not an oven).
If you are interested, please email a little information about yourself, your hours of availability, if you can commit for at least a year, and why you are interested in, and think you may be suitable for, this share. We can then give you more details about this specific situation.
£150.00 per month plus possible contribution to household bills (£60 per month).
