Description
Bright, peaceful, queer-friendly house share near Hackney marshes and Chatsworth Rd. Good food, music, bars, cinema, canal walks and beautiful nature all nearby. Sharing with 3 people working in publishing, medicine, human rights and expressive arts.
The languages spoken in the house include: English, Slovakian, French, Tamil, Czech, and Danish.
Your room and logistics: 1 x double room (£610); characterful, spacious and comes with a double bed and built-in, but limited storage. It's situated between shared spaces and on the ground floor, so not suitable for someone sensitive to living noise or a cooler room. It will be ready for you to move in from 1st Feb.
The bills (excluded from rent) are approx. £110 including water, elec/gas, council tax (band E) and wifi. We're currently reviewing whether we'll proceed again with a cleaner, in which case there may be an additional fee of approx £50 each p/m.
The deposit is £500.
Us and the house: our home is cosy with a large kitchen/diner and comfortable living room. We also have a garden (fruit trees, herbs, tomatoes and you're welcome to plant up more). The vibe is relaxed, peaceful and clean with a lot of plants! We often share dinners and watch films together but you'd obviously be welcome to join in as much as you want. We love house shares and have lived with lots of different people over the years. We're into reading, music, cycling, painting, film, dancing, yoga and cooking.
Looking for plant based and vegetarian - kitchen is set up for respectful sharing. There is a shellfish, crustacean, and octopus/calamari allergy in the house so, unfortunately, none of these foods can be consumed inside at any time.
This is a warm, creative place where friends/lovers/family are welcome but we keep the balance and space for ourselves first and foremost. We're very respectful of the need for time to ourselves and for hanging out in equal measure. We also check in with each other regularly on things that may come up to keep the house feeling good and healthy.
You: we're looking for people (ideally age 35+) who are open-minded, emotionally mature, who love and are experienced in house shares and who communicate with kindness and transparency. We want to find housemates who are interested in feeling at home and proactively pitching in to keep it a really lovely space; someone who never needs reminded to keep the shared spaces clean and tidy and who would enjoy the social connection and community care of house sharing in a balanced and respectful way.
We have a shared commitment to anti-racism and wholeheartedly support the liberation of Palestine and all other oppressed peoples. We also have a strong trans and non-binary inclusive outlook and we are only looking for people who share these values too (no Zionists, no terfs). It's important to us, especially during these difficult times, that this house is a welcoming home for all.
WFH: Some of us currently work from home Mon - Fri. We’re using the shared spaces in a reasonable and thoughtful way and can discuss and accommodate different work needs and patterns together, making sure there’s also plenty time for shared spaces to be for relaxing only. We are looking for someone who rarely (if ever) works from home.
Accessibility: there's a toilet on the ground floor, the shared bathroom with shower is upstairs (12 steps). There are 2 steps up into the house, 1 step down to the kitchen and toilet and 2 further steps down into the garden. We use scented candles and oils in the house. We aim to be understanding of ND needs, but give us a shout if any questions you might have are not answered here. Benefits are accepted, we've confirmed with our landlord. We are a pet friendly house and there are two cats from the neighborhood who come visit from time to time. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate cat or pet allergies.
Covid health: We're a considerate household and it's important that you would join us in communicating honestly and respectfully, so we can all relax and be ourselves safely at home. We love to have people round to hang out, but it's not a party house. In the event that pandemic restrictions ramp up again, we prioritise taking care of ourselves and each other and following guidance. Home is a sanctuary for us all from the intensity of the times we're living in and we're looking for people who feel the same.
Everyone most welcome! If you're interested, please get in touch via the Spareroom ad and tell us about yourself. We'll be organising viewings for Sun 12th and Mon 13th January and will be responding to messages in the first week of Jan as some of us are away over the holidays
