Description

Our wonderful housemate Asa is moving on to fresh pastures, so 14A is looking for somebody awesome to complete the family!

The room: A ground-floor double room. Part furnished/unfurnished. Asa is leaving a few bits behind, but he's totally flexible, anything that’s not to your liking can be donated to charity.

There is currently an awesome mezzanine bed + customized storage installed, which adds considerably more living space, allowing for a sofa, desk and good storage options (perfect if you’re forced to work from home during Covid).

As the house is ridiculously endowed with 3 bathrooms, you'll only be sharing with one other housemate.

The rent is £535 per month, excluding bills which are approx £60-70 per month, paid quarterly. This includes super-fast internet.

The rest of the house: Is spread across the ground floor and basement flat in a late Victorian house full of quirky charm, situated in the leafy streets of Clapton, Hackney. We are blessed with a lovely outdoor space, a paved back garden with a large decking area, ideal for BBQs, yoga, and breakfast in the sun (or a Bloody Mary if it’s one of those days). Truly a blessing during the summer months, especially if you have to stay at home during COVID...This also doubles up perfectly as bike storage for any potential cyclists.

London being London, there is no separate living room, but we have a large communal fully equipped kitchen/dining area where we share meals and laughs (we recently had a brand new boiler installed that keeps us warm when human warmth is not enough). Full disclosure, we’ve been renting here for nearly 10 years and very much consider it home, though resultingly the house look well-lived in with the occasional quirk.

We love cinema, so movie nights are a big thing in the house -especially at the moment - and we regularly decompress in front of the big screen with the projector on. Note you may be required to curate a movie night from time to time, no pressure! ;)

The location: We're situated between Clapton Pond and Hackney Downs. 10-15 minutes walk to Hackney Central & Hackney Downs Stations, 5-10 minutes to Clapton rail station, and loads of buses into Central London. If you’re looking at this area we probably won’t have to sell it to you, but we find it a great balance between vibrant Hackney and peaceful residential street, with plenty of shops, pubs, bars, restaurants and facilities, parks and of course Hackney Marshes all within walking distance.

The housemates: Cassie, Andrew and Lou. Aged between 26 - 39. Adorable humans fulfilling careers in film, arts, and social care.

Cassie is a foliage and dog lover who gives her time for others as a job. She's known to watch questionable reality TV while bringing fancy Asian-inspired meals on the table, as well as many plant pots. She's that brilliant type who always bring a Tony's Chocolate bar to a party; tea preference is strong but cow milky!

Andrew is a videographer and tech nerd, with countless names not given to him by his parents, he has an unhealthy addiction to sweat treats and Star Wars, tea preference is “darker side of golden” with oat milk, often found aimlessly trying to find balance on the yoga mat.

Lou recently finished a Masters in Art History and Facilitation, has a side job working at Tate, but we secretly believe she’s an MI5 agent. Known to obsessively plan out meals in advance, collect jars and stuff them with leftovers, tea preference is green.

Collectively we’re friendly, sociable, clean and tidy but not too precious. We very much like to think of 14A as a family (without the petty arguing) so we hang-out together, share in the cooking, go to the pub together or at least we used to. We integrate friends, share our thoughts and feelings, regularly and often drunkenly set the world to rights, we support each other’s passions, care for each other and generally try to live in harmonious bliss.

What we are looking for: A person aged mid-20 and upwards. Ideally, someone awesome, who’s passionate, likes to get involved but also brings new avenues for adventure to the table, is packing sound ethical values, cares about the world, has a heart of gold with interests beyond their work, unless their work is their interest, in which case congratulations ;)

We’ve assessed the Govt guidelines on viewings and it seems virtual meetings are advised initially but in-person views are also permissible using social distancing measures and facemasks. It’s all a bit weird, but some common sense should make viewings easy to navigate and we are happy to accommodate both options, dependent on your preference.
