Description
I’m looking for a Monday to Friday lodger to share my 1960s terraced townhouse. The room available is in the loft and has a private ensuite (inc shower). It's on the 3rd floor, which you would have to yourself. It's a large, bright & sunny space with lots of natural light, it’s clean & fresh (recently redecorated) and is furnished simply with a super comfy kingsize bed; modern desk & chair; plenty of storage drawers & a clothes rail.
The main living space is on the 1st floor and is open plan with a cosy sofa/tv area, a small dining table, and a kitchen. You would be sharing these spaces with me (+ a friendly feline, so cat-lovers only please). There is also a pretty garden with a table for eating outside.
The kitchen is functional but compact and as it is open plan it may not suit someone who likes to cook elaborate meals every night. You will have your own cupboard/fridge space. Please note there is no dishwasher! So I am looking for someone who knows how to clear up after themselves. The washing machine is in a utility room on the ground floor along with drying space & a tumble dryer.
I love my peaceful home and garden and would like to share with someone who also appreciates being in a calm & tidy house: it may not be the right fit if this isn’t important to you.
This is a weekday arrangement only – maximum 4 nights per week and no weekends. It would ideally suit a working professional who is looking for something a bit nicer & more homely than a hotel; the loft & shower room would be yours for the duration of your stay and would not be used by anyone else. I would prefer someone who is not WFH during the week. No overnight guests please.
I am a decorator so mostly out during the day but occasionally have weeks off to do my own projects at home. I like tv + listening to music + doing creative stuff after work but I also visit/host friends, sometimes go out to eat or to the local cinema. V happy to share the occasional film/meal but am quite self-contained and am looking for someone similar.
The rent is £750 inc bills (gas & electric, water, good broadband and Netflix, as well as a fortnightly cleaner and a change of bedlinen & towels). There will be a Council Tax charge unless you are paying it elsewhere.
The room is available from January. I would require a months’ deposit and the rent paid in advance at the beginning of each month. The usual rental agreement would be for 6 months with the possibility of a rolling contract after that initial period.
Transport links are good: you can walk to either Gipsy Hill or Crystal Palace stations in about 15 mins, trains go into London Victoria or London Bridge (both 25 mins) or towards Beckenham or Croydon in the other direction. If you need to get to west London, Gipsy Hill to Clapham Junction is around 17 mins, with lots of trains from there towards Wandsworth, Putney, Richmond, Twickenham etc. There is also a terminal with lots of buses which will get you to most other parts of London but please check travel times if you are unfamiliar with South London. If you have a car, free on-street parking is available and it’s usually easy to find a spot.
The immediate area is leafy & green (there’s a little park at the end of the street) and it feels very safe. The estate is very friendly with lots of families and professionals. I have lived here for a long time and Crystal Palace is a wonderful location at the top of a hill with great views of the city on your way to the station: there’s a fabulous Everyman cinema and loads of restaurants, indie shops & nice pubs. There is a proper Sainsburys 5 minutes’ walk away which is open til 9pm weekdays.
