This is a large room in a shared garden flat located in Dalston (Hackney), with Ridley Road market, nightlife, restaurants, flea markets/thrift stores, and good public transport connection to Central via two Overground stations (Dalston Kingsland/Dalston Junction). While all that jazz happens nearby, we are in a very quiet residential street with a bucolic large garden in the back, getting the best of both worlds. We have a large patio with chairs and a table, a garden swing, a vegetable patch and a lawn.

Your room is very large and will feel like your own little apartment/studio. It is downstairs in our two-story flat and has a north-facing bay window, and a walk-in closet. Your own bathroom can be negotiated, since I have my own shower upstairs. Another huge asset which is rare for London is the large living room, which allows for small dinner parties. The house is full of plants and you are free to add your own everywhere.

About me: I am an assistant professor in medical anthropology and I work quite a lot while keeping life interesting. I am queer, neurodiverse, kind, and community-oriented. I have lived in houseshares all my life and I enjoy making a cozy home with people while also respecting everyone's privacy. Originally I am from east Germany but I have lived in Canada for 15 years and shorter periods in South Africa and the US (NYC, Chapel Hill). I love theatre, reading, yoga, cooking, cycling, and spending time with friends. A few things I am not so good with: incense and scented candles and noise (e. g. loud music/TV).

I would like to share a house with open-minded, kind, considerate and interesting folks. Self-awareness, intersectionality, anti-racism, sex positivity, and good communication skills are all important to me. This is definitely a grown-up house but there is joy, food, and generosity going around. We have lovely neighbours upstairs, as well as left and right from our garden. So this place is truly a home. Please tell me about you in your response and how you like to houseshare.

This is a huge three-bedroom flat. I rent two rooms so when my partner visits from France (twice a month for 3-4 nights) we have a little bit extra space. The flat also has a small guest room which can be used to accommodate visitors ever so often. However, this should be discussed each time. No additional person can stay longer than a few days in the guest room.

The kitchen is fully equipped, including tableware, large assortment of spices, food processors etc. I am currently not vegetarian/vegan but I rarely eat or cook meat at home, but don't mind if you do. My partner is vegan (and a brilliant cook as you will find out!).
