The Thameslink service from Elephant & Castle provide a much more pleasant and quick option to get to the City via Blackfriars and Farringdon, as well as St Pancras and Kings Cross for easy access to Cambridge and Eurostar getaways / onward journeys to Paris and Brussels, and also to escape London for the day to the ancient Roman town of St Albans and leafy Sevenoaks with its gorgeous Knole deer park. The London Bridge train station opens up further National Rail options including convenient links to Gatwick Airport.
