Description
I’m renting a room in my flat in Gospel Oak. My flatmate of several years is leaving to pastures new and I am looking for someone who would like a place for a short period of time/ or who wants a room for part of the week. The room is a double, and has a large built in wardrobe. It is currently unfurnished but for short term lets I will provide a bed don’t worry! The room gets the morning sun and is on the top floor of the block on a quiet residential street.
About the place/ area: the flat is part of the Weedington estate in Gospel Oak. It is a modernist block from the 1970s and has fantastic light and a terrace that overlooks the communal garden. The estate is a mix of council and private but it is generally pretty quiet and I have good relationships with neighbours. I am quite active in the community and am part of the residents association. What makes this area so special is the proximity to the Heath. The Lido is a mere few minutes away or it is a short walk to the ponds if you enjoy a swim. The nearest station is Gospel Oak overground or Belsize Park/ Kentish Town/ Chalk Farm tubes (northern line) are within 10-15mins walk. There is a washing machine, dishwasher and the usual appliances. I have pretty much every conceivable item needed in the kitchen and I am happy for you to use them. There is a nice big kitchen table to eat at, you do not need to be invisible.
There is one bathroom and a separate WC. Hot water comes from a district heating system and the radiators are on a thermostat. Bills aren’t included but are approx £150/ month, a little more in winter.
I have a cat called Neo, he’s a very chilled old guy. He sleeps a lot of the day, doesn’t shred the furniture and will probably sit on your lap. Is important you know in case you have allergies.
About me: I’m an academic at UCL, running a programme there, researching and currently working on a book project. I moved here a year ago and this is my home, but have lived in London for 25 years and I love the city dearly. Over the years I have been very fortunate to share with interesting folks with whom I can enjoy a chat and a glass of wine. I am not vegetarian, I do eat fish and a bit of meat. Hopefully you don’t mind! I love cooking and hosting people, and from time to time host other academics/friends who are passing through London for the night. I don’t own a TV and I am not interested in having one.
About you: you might be passing through town on a short work placement or research visit, or perhaps you are looking for something in between moves where you need a bit of flexibility. Or maybe something else- you can tell me your story!
Without sounding like I am running a monastery, no couples, sorry. If your job involves WFH a lot or being on Teams calls all day then it is unlikely to work out I’m afraid. I get along best with those that have a similar active rhythm to me, rather than somebody who is into a lot of baths and bedrot.
Hopefully you are clean, reasonably tidy and a respectful person. This place is great for those who like to be close to central yet love the outdoors.
