Description
[We get A LOT of messages so please tell us a good bit about yourself as it makes it much easier to allocate viewings. Don't be discouraged though, you could be exactly who we want! However, we can't guarantee a response so don't be disheartened if you don't hear back.]
[Communal area pictures are a little old, and the cats have moved out and been replaced with a different, arguably better one.]
We’re looking for community-minded people to join the fun in our big, beautiful, unique and friendly warehouse home!
THE HOUSE
We’re a big converted warehouse home with decent sized double rooms and lots of communal space. We're technically two warehouses (sides 1 and 2) joined internally by two corridors and externally by our lovely, big garden.
Each side of the warehouse has a double kitchen (two ovens, two sinks, communal pots, plates etc), three bathrooms (x2 showers, x1 bath) and 14 bedrooms. Both sides also feature exceptionally spacious living areas, various studio and chill out spaces and a huge mezzanine with lots of potential for creative endeavours, workshopping or work from home.
HOUSEHOLD
Across the sides we operate as a little community so you can pretty much always find someone somewhere to hang out and chat with/watch netflix/play a boardgame/borrow some oat milk etc, but everyone's different schedules means there’s very rarely more than 5 or 6 people in a space so we’re never waiting for toilets or ovens. The house is well kitted for shared living!
We're a diverse bunch, a mix of creatives, hands on workers and young professionals, from tree surgeons to anthropologists, charity workers to physicists and all inbetween. We're a pretty mixed up household, overall very lgbtqia+ leaning with allies very welcome, and all very liberal, open minded people. We enjoy cooking and eating together, boardgames, films and group nights out.
While we throw a really banging party two or three times a year and enjoy a few drinks together and some music at the weekend, we’re respectful of each other and it's a more relaxed family feel than a party house, especially during the week. However, there's naturally an amount of bustle that comes with living with this many people, not enough to bother any of us, but worth mentioning in advance... if you were looking for a totally silent retreat, then this isn't it.
THE ROOM
All rooms are a good size with space for a sofa and desk if you’re WFH, plus masses of space in the communal areas for creative or desk-based pursuits. They’re mostly unfurnished, but sometimes you can salvage some bits and pieces from the outgoing tenant, the rest of the warehouse and/or the wider community. You’re welcome to decorate your room however you like as we do not ask for damage deposits, just a £50 one you get back if you leave your room clean... Many people completely redecorate theirs just for fun and to lend a personal touch.
Generally when someone moves out, people switch up rooms so the ones available are usually the smallest (though still doubles!) but an upgrade is always just around the corner as there's a natural ebb and flow of housemates when you live with this many people. As such, bigger rooms are always coming available (and current tenants get first pick before we do viewings).
Please note we do not have windows in our bedrooms; there's an airflow system bringing fresh air from outside, and small glass bricks that let a little light in as the living spaces are full of light.
BONUS POINTS
- We’re within a wider warehouse community, so there’s other units nearby to potentially mingle with, and also a really sweet bar right at the entrance to our complex.
- 7 minute walk or a few minutes on the bus to Manor House, Seven Sisters, Stamford Hill - 15 min walk, 5 mins on bus to Finsbury Park, Haringey Green Lanes. All sorts of the usual useful shops in the area and good takeaway availability too.
- Available asap but flexible move-in dates. It's a rolling monthly contract (all bills, internet, cleaner included) plus £10 a month we pool in a kitty to upgrade the space with fun stuff after we’ve covered basics like toilet paper and cleaning supplies.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We just want nice people that can compromise, coexist and contribute to our awesome home. People who are kind, chilled and have got their shit together when it comes to things like tidying up after themselves.
We like people who are up for getting involved too. I don't mean constantly, we're all individuals after all, but it's also not a place to just stay in your room and ignore people. Bonus points if you have something you can bring to the space, a skill or whatever.
All diets welcome, we're currently more veggie than not (I'm vegan, join me plz). Obviously queer or an ally is a must. I'm not allowed to say negative things about groups on spareroom, but let's just say that we're more welcoming of intersectional feminists than some other factions, and if you're politically minded, we prefer you to be left wing/liberal. I'm allowed say no conspiracy theorists though!
The new flatmate preferences on the right of the ad are guidelines only. If you think you're a good fit but don't match those 100%, just send us a message anyway. We are looking to fill out the slightly older side of the range posted.
Finally, the place is probably more suited to someone with a vaguely mon-fri, 9-5 schedule as that's what the rest of the house is mostly like and just leads to less friction with noise, music, etc at the weekends.
SUMMARY
I've lived here a few years now and I love it. A lot of us are invested in the space itself and we're always trying to improve it. We’ve currently got a really nice vibe going, with a diverse bunch of really sound people so that’s a trend we want to continue.
If you're pretty chilled out, generally clean and tidy (can't stress that last part enough) and you're looking for a home and new friends, not just a place to eat and sleep - then please message a bit about yourself as it makes it much easier to ok you for a viewing if we can get a feel for what you're about straight away. Generic enquiries without any personal info will likely be ignored as we do get a lot of interest when rooms are available.
We look forward to meeting you!
