Description

Room:: A furnished loft bedroom on the second floor is available from September onwards.

Term: Six months (with the possibility to extend if everyone would like to).

Rent: £585 pcm + bills. The rent is based on the interest on the mortgage only (the lodger will not be paying down our mortgage); each home-owner will be paying significantly more. The bills come out to approximately £180-200 per month (including a fortnightly cleaner); Council tax band E.

Deposit: £585, a full month’s rent, which will come out of the last month’s rent (open to discussing this further if it is a barrier). There is no credit referencing and benefits are accepted.

Ownership information: We (Smith and Meghana) own the house, and as this creates unequal power dynamics, we want to try to make sure that any agreements that we enter into are as fair as possible, centering that a lodger is in a more precarious position than either of us (and are open to bringing in a third party to mediate this if helpful).

Access info: It is a terraced house over three floors. (1) The living + dining room, kitchen and a toilet on the ground floor, (2) two bedrooms, a study and a bathroom with a toilet+bath on the first floor (3) 1 double loft bedroom and a bathroom with shower+toilet on the top floor
there is no lift access
the bed is a low bed given the loft space
there is a single step to enter the house and three staircases to the top floor to the loft bedroom
in case of allergies, we have two cats and plants, and the cats litter box lives in the top floor bathroom
Despite being close to the busy tube, there is limited noise as the road is tucked away, however there is some traffic noise

Food: Most of our food is shared (including food costs, not included in the bills above) and we would like to continue to live like this if possible. Meghana cooks 1-2 times a week for the house as they enjoy it.

Pets: We have two cats, Rumi (4) and Nilla (3), who Smith rescued during the pandemic. They are very sweet and low maintenance.

Transport: Seven sisters tube is a 2 min walk away with access to the victoria line. Seven sisters overground is a 5 minute walk away. South Tottenham overground is a 7 minute walk away. There is also good bus connectivity.

Description:
- We live in a spacious, quiet house which is a 15 min walk to Markfield park and a 25 min walk to the Walthamstow Wetlands. There is a small front garden and a small back garden with a shed. We have a few houseplants. We have a lot of books, crafts, a piano and fitness equipment. There is a decent amount of storage space.
- We would like our home to be a peaceful and stable safe space, with everyone taking responsibility. We are hoping to foster a space where we live together communally and collectively, and we want to find people who are keen to join in this way of cohabiting (while keeping in mind that people have different capacities). In addition to the lovely communal vibes and general silliness, we also enjoy our own space and are very respectful of privacy.
- We are both vegan/lactose-intolerant and want the house to be predominantly vegan.
- We are both also sober from alcohol and in a sober support group together, so this house would not be friendly for regular drinkers or 420 folks.
- We would like a tidy home - we have a cleaner who comes in every two weeks and we tend to clean up after ourselves in the interim.
- We are both abolitionists, who dream of building new worlds even as this one feels like it's on fire. We are earnest, neurodivergent, vulnerable, and practising hope amid despair.

About us:
Meghana (pronounced meig-na, they/them): 33 / leftie brown upper-caste immigrant / queer nb poly/RA dyke. I work a 5-day a week corporate job and wfh around 1-2 days a week from the desk in the kitchen (for which I may need to close the door at times for meetings). I am in a few book clubs, love cooking, am into climbing and callisthenics, and am sex-positive/kinky. I have a romantic partner (who stays over a couple of nights a week), and a wonderful set of friends who visit at times .

Smith (they/them): 42, white British-Polish nonbinary poly/RA nerd. I work in sustainability but have an architecture and engineering background. I work from home 2-3 days a week from my study and have quite a stressful job. I’m in several book clubs, I play violin in a ceilidh band and in an orchestra, I do hot yoga, and I love sci-fi cartoons and learning new crafts. I have two romantic partners in London (who stay over a few nights a week), several very important friends, and three siblings. I enjoy nothing more than watching terrible tv then getting distracted by plotting the end of capitalism.

Smith+Meghana: Close friends / qp partners - we met at a bookclub in 2019 and it’s been an incredible friendship! We have dreamt of building a home for some time and moved into this house in February.

You:
You will be
- queer and abolitionist
- keen to be sober and vegan at home
- boundaried, communicative and practising accountability around conflict

You would ideally:
- be 30+
- be POC friendly
- love cats as much as we do
- have a green thumb! (gardening skills are sorely lacking in our house!)

We are planning to arrange viewings in the first week of September and will be in touch.
