Description
I’m moving out of my amazing top floor double room in a gorgeous, queer Victorian houseshare in Highgate! The house itself is massive and although we are 6, you really don’t feel crowded across five floors. We have two bathrooms, a huge shared living room with two couches and a dining room table and a kitchen with enough space for a kitchen table and chairs, as well as enough cabinet space for six people. One bathroom has a shower and a (genuinely) massive bathtub. The other bathroom is just a WC but it means you never have to wait for someone to be done showering to pee!
Bills come out to approximately £100 a month on top of rent. We pay energy in monthly installments so we luckily have not had any bad surprises so far. There is a £50 fee to change the contract over to a new tenant. The current contract has another 12 months on it before it is renewed, however the landlord isn’t make any noises about selling and he has been renting this house for 10+ years, so the chances of him changing his mind are low. Our landlord has a handyman named Teddy who makes any and all repairs we need in the property who is very responsive and has not left us in the lurch yet!
The house itself is situated just south of Highgate station in a residential neighbourhood that is super quiet. No traffic noise! The house also backs up onto the Parkland Walk nature trail and from the bedroom window all you can see are trees :)
For the flatmates, you will have five of the loveliest people you could ever ask for. We are all queer, some of us are trans and three of us are people of colour. We joke that we basically have the entire acronym represented in our house :p We work a variety of jobs from international NGO work, marketing, museum conservation, access to justice charity work and the night shift at Waitrose. We all have differing schedules but when we’re home and free we make a point of spending time with each other and are genuinely friends. I would describe the house as wholesome, calm and healing, with flatmates who genuinely care about your welfare while also respecting your personal space and willingness to socialize. We have movie nights from time to time and try to celebrate any and all holidays, birthdays and any other occasion that can be an excuse to get together to eat yummy food and mix good drinks. Some of us are vegan and some of us are sober but this is not a strict vegan or sober house. This is definitely not a party house and we say no to drugs (in the house).
For our potential future flatmate, we are looking for a queer person who is looking for a calm house to make a home in to replace me 🏡 This is an accepting and welcoming home to people of all genders/sexualities/races and we are looking for someone who shares these principles. 😘
