Description
Hi Future Flatmate (you?),
My name is Hugo, I'm a 28 y/o queer man working in film, and I'm looking for an amazing flatmate to share this beautiful 2-floor/2-bed flat in Highgate with. I'm not a landlord or an agent, so this post will be decidedly bullshit free.
The guidelines say to write as much as you can "within reason", but reason is subjective anyway, so this might run a bit long.
------
HEADLINES:
My friends are moving out of their home at the very top of Highgate High Street (see dogdy picture above for view of London down the street). I'm being kicked out of my flat at the same time, so I'm looking for someone who will take over it with me.
Rent: £1050
Bills: £200 (est.)
Deposit: £1200 (5 wks rent)
Nearest Station: Highate (15 mins), Archway (20 mins)
Local pros:
Hampstead Heath, Karl Marx's grave, various unnaproachable celebrities.
Local cons:
Coffee around Highgate is mid?
THE PROPERTY:
The Maisonette is a large two-bedroom flat situated at the top of Highgate High Street, above the Winkworths estate agents that manage it (having met them, they're actually quite nice, and apparently very helpful).
Access is from the ground floor, but through two doors and up a set of stairs for additional security.
The bedroom on offer is the smaller but cheaper single room, situated on the second floor, next to the shared bathroom and across from the second bedroom.
The window looks down onto the shared rooftop below and gets plenty of light. It is furnished with the wardrobe, bed, and drawers (pictured).
On the first floor is a very spacious and bright living area.
It is currently split up into a dining/work area and a living area, but I think there is a great opportunity to play around with this space as a blank slate. I'd love to find someone excited to engage in finding the best possible arrangement.
The kitchen, while not quite as exciting, has a long counter and a ton of storage space. If you love cooking like me this will be a great place to make amazing food.
Probably the best part of the house is here and it's what I'm already calling "The Nook" - a slightly raised indoor space that juts out onto the shared accessible rootop with windows on three sides. I have literally no idea what this nook was originally designed for, but trust me it's pretty cool and could function as a cozy cushioned meditation space.
Finally, there is an additional toilet adjacent to the kitchen. Practical!
The flat is more than large enough for two people, so would be perfect for someone else like me who is, in the words of Kendrick Lamar, an intoverted-extrovert and needs their space, but loves to chat and host friends.
LOCATION:
I'll be honest, if it weren't for the location it might be hard to fully justify the price. Fortunately, the location more than does that. It's over the road from Waterlow Gardens and Highgate Cemetary. It's a 20 minute walk, or 8 minute cycle, from Hampstead and the Bathing Ponds.
The view from the top of the hill is absolutely stunning, rewarding everyone who isn't completely broken by the climb with views over London and a glimpse of the Emirates for any Arsenal fans.
Down the hill in Archway there's plenty of supermarkets, including an ALDI and an M&S, and a little further down is Holloway Road.
Up in Highgate there are so many good pubs, nice delis, and restaurants.
ABOUT ME:
So if you are interested in the above, that's great, but you'll have to live with yours truly one way or another (hopefully a good thing!). It's hard to sum yourself up in a few words, hence the attempt to inject some personality into writing this listing.
For those who are still reading at this point, my name is Hugo, I'm a 28y/o British man, born in London, raised in Bristol, and proudly LGBTQ+. I work in film, and love art in all its forms - I write a lot, read as much as I can, love music, and watch a lot of films. I'm pro-Palestine, anti-Labour and, naturally, LGBTQ+ friendly.
What am I like to live with? Well, I can chat about pretty much anything and am an open person. I like my own space and respect others needs, but I also believe that making an effort with the people you live with is important, and I try and be present in communal spaces and keep my door open, even if I'm just reading quietly.
I'm very much a tidier and like to keep spaces as neat as possible, even if I'm not a fastidious cleaner.
I'm a good cook and like to share, so I'm always keen to provide a good meal. I'm a firm believer that a problem shared is a problem halved, so it would be great to find ways to split chores evenly.
Since this is a brand new space with a new flatmate, it would be great to move in with someone who is excited about investing in communal areas - be that houseplants, furniture, or art - and really making the flat come to life. I'm also quite a social person and would like to have friends visit fairly often if possible (who are all lovely and very well behaved, by the way).
TL; DR: At the end of the day, if you're a chill and communicative person, we'll get on fine.
Hope to hear from you,
H
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
• Apologies about the estate agent pictures - they probably seem a little sus - I do not currently live in the property and the current tenants will be moving out. A professional clean will be carried out before the move, so it will likely look closer to these pictures.
• Since I don’t yet live at this property, but will be given access by friends, there might be a delay of a week or two sometimes in when I can do viewings.
• I’ll likely reply in batches every couple of days, so don’t worry if I haven’t messaged you back yet.
