Description
We’re offering a room in a beautiful, lived in family home directly on the River Thames, with open views across to Greenwich Palace, the Cutty Sark, and the Greenwich Clock Tower. It’s an incredible setting that has been featured in multiple design magazines, with nine bedrooms, balconies overlooking the river, and just a seven minute walk to the heart of Greenwich.
The household is multi generational. The house is home to Jenny Baraclough, a documentary filmmaker and BAFTA winner whose work includes films such as Gay Is Dead, and Michael Baraclough, a former doctor at St Thomas’ Hospital who later dedicated much of his life to community projects, including Mudchute Farm on the Isle of Dogs, inner city sailing initiatives, and local self build programmes. Michael now lives with dementia and is supported by Marion, his full time carer, who is originally from South Africa.
Also living here are Joseph, me, 23, a philosophy student, Luke, 26, who works in events, and Mina, 29, an Egyptian composer working on Egyptian films. We also have a beautiful house cat called Stormy, and a shared sitting room with river views.
The rent is £700 per month, with an expectation of helping with light weekly household contributions such as mowing the lawn, taking out the rubbish, and sweeping the terrace. This is part of how the house runs and helps keep it feeling shared and cared for.
We’re ideally looking for a student or young professional under 25 who is easy going, considerate, and sociable, someone who enjoys conversation and sees a home as more than just a place to crash. This isn’t a party house, but it is a warm and social one, and it would suit someone who is happy to be around for the occasional cup of tea, a chat, and everyday shared moments.
More than anything, we’re looking for someone who would enjoy joining what is a unique and genuinely special riverside household, a small, multi generational community of inspiring and lovely people, and who values being part of a home rather than just renting a room.
If this sounds like the sort of place you’d feel at ease in, I’d love to hear from you. Please tell us a little about yourself and what you’re studying or working in when you get in touch.
I look forward to hearing from you 🙂
