Description
Our house is located on a residential road (Council Tax Band D) near Maryland Station in the Stratford area. Plenty of amenities around: a big supermarket and corner shops, green spaces including the Olympic Park with its sports facilities, and then a bit further the Hackney Marshes. Train and tube connections from Stratford (Central, Jubilee, Overground, DLR) are a 15-min walk away; and it’s only a 2-min walk to Maryland Station, where Elizabeth Line trains get you to Liverpool St in just 8 minutes.
The house itself is a gorgeously kept 4-bed property with some lovely period features but modern appliances. Having aimed for a long-term commitment on the place, we have furnished it ourselves. The vacant bedroom is unfurnished but some bits are available so we can talk about this. The kitchen is super spacious and bright and includes a dining area. There are two living rooms, one which we use purely for relaxation and TV, and the other for admin, hanging laundry, etc. We also have a garden which is partially bricked and decked with plenty of space for all our bikes and outdoor plants. There is a basement which is excellent for storing those things we never use but can’t yet part with.
The available room is a snug-ish double on the first floor at the back of the house overlooking the garden. While it is isolated from street noise, it does face the nearby train tracks so may not be suitable for a very light sleeper. The room shares a bathroom (tub!) with two other rooms on the same floor.
In terms of admin, you will be replacing our departing housemate as a full tenant. The current lease is 1 year long and is getting renewed at the end of February, so you would be on the lease until that time, at which point we are hoping to renew again. We are consequently looking for someone who is interested in a long-term commitment and building a home and a community with us.
As a house we are: environmentally conscious, creative, left-leaning, feminist and anti-racist, and queer / queer-affirming, and predominantly vegetarian. We are looking for someone on the same page who is looking to build a home with like-minded folks. We are respectful of each other’s independent lives as we all have our separate busy schedules that don’t always line up for doing group activities, but we think it’s crucial that we all have good chemistry and can depend on each other. Our jobs are all very sociable and can involve travelling, so we appreciate having a home that feels like a quiet safe haven rather than a busy party house. We share the responsibility to keep the house neat for each other, and have a cleaner who comes once every two weeks to help with the communal areas.
Individually, we are:
Ben (he / him): 34, costume maker, poetry lover, loves to cook
Troy (he / him): 37, wears costumes (drag queen), poetry hater, loves to eat
Will (he / him): 32, audio engineer, loves pastries, theatre and a good tv series.
