Description

The Room:

The room is around 5.7mx3.3m attic room with 2 skylights (1 openable for ventilation) and a radiator. There are 12 steps up to a landing shared with one other room. The stairs lead immediately down into the shared living room/kitchen.

The room is supplied with a sofa and a bed frame, but is otherwise unfurnished. For everything else it's fairly easy to get furniture from other warehouses, the local facebook groups, or delivery.

The current resident has the room set up for a double bed, clothes rack, a sofa, and a work area. This warehouse is DIY-friendly and each of us decorates our own rooms.

All bills are included in the rent including gas, electric, water, wi-fi, and council tax.

The warehouse:
We are a big warehouse with a lot of facilities, including:
- A bright decking and garden area with picnic tables and lounging space
- Two adjoining communal kitchens, a breakfast bar, and a long dining table, individually allocated cupboard, fridge, and freezer space
- A large living room (complete with projector, speakers, and streaming services)
- A pool table and weights
- Allocation of 130cm of industrial racking for general storage
- Indoor bike racks
- Spaces available for creative work
- Quiet hot-desking space with spare screens
- Four bathrooms (one of which actually has a bath!) which are all fitted with showers, sinks and toilets
- A separate laundry room which has two large washing machines (Both pretty new), and hanging drying racks
- Cleaners who come once every two weeks to clean the communal living area (bathrooms, kitchen, and living room); we are expected to clean up after ourselves generally and the cleaning is intended to catch the rest
- A £10 per month house kitty covering cleaning supplies and a rolling rota of household tasks (taking into account resident abilities and availability)
- A resident giant white cat (pictured), so we are unable to accommodate any further fluffy friends.
- Shared cleaning, gardening, and recycling

The people:
Unit F has a total of 20 bedrooms (SpareRoom won’t let us say more than 12!) with housemates in a variety of professions including creatives, performers, artists, grafters, engineers etc. Residents and their community have a large age range from mid 20's to 60's, a mix of orientations and genders, and many faiths (and none). As there are already a lot of people, we do not rent rooms to couples, but many of us have our partner(s) over regularly.

We have a house Slack we use to manage the rota and discuss housekeeping and socials. We have occasional socials from house dinners to parties that can run very late, but aim to let housemates know when these are planned on Slack.

We keep fairly different schedules so there is rarely a queue for showers.

Community:
We are part of Arena Design Centre, a converted business estate for artists, creatives and other free-thinker types. There are over 200 people living on the estate and it is quite a lively community with free stuff being shared, jobs and volunteering, and a community garden. We are part of the wider Haringey Warehouse District.

Links
We are located about 15 minutes from both Manor House and Seven Sisters tube stations, Harringey Green Lanes overground, and many bus routes. It has gated parking (unallocated, so subject to availability) and is round the corner from Sainsburys, Aldi, Superdrug, and B&Q. There is also quick and easy access to several nearby pubs, bars, gyms, and shops.

Applying:
If you have read this far, well done!

We are very keen to get the right people to live with us, and with 20 people it can take some time to meet everyone.

We have a three step process where we:
1) read your response to the questions below:
- What date do you need to move by?
- Where do you currently live?
- Why are you looking to move?
- Include the word Avocado in your message so we know that you have read the whole ad
- What interests you about warehouse living, specifically with us?
- What do you do for work?
- What are your hobbies and interests (Creative or otherwise)?
- Any other info about you that you think is relevant for us to know

2) based on your responses, we may offer a group viewing where you can see the room and meet some housemates to confirm you are interested
3) if you and we are both interested, we then have a group interview where you can meet as many of us as possible and we ask you a set of questions so we can get to know you better
