Description

Hey gals!

We have a top floor room going in our lovely Streatham flat - and we are looking a lovely gal to join us!

About the room and house
The house is a split level first floor maisonette so you go up a short set of stairs to our front door - as you enter you head straight up another set of stairs to where the house is based - your room is then up a 3rd set of stairs and is on its own top level. It's the largest room in the house and comes furnished with a bed, shelving unit and 2 chest of drawers - there is also a tonne of additional storage in the attic eaves. As it is on it's own floor there is a sense of peace and quiet. You get all the light with 2 big windows looking to the sky.
The rest of the house comprises of a bathroom (shower/bath) with a separate toilet, living room, kitchen/dining room and then a lovely garden which we make the most of in the summer with BBQ's and drinks. The house is an unusual layout - essentially on one long corridor - which means it feels quite spacious and not overcrowded. It is an old house so it can be a little battered in places - it's part of it's charm! Despite its age the heating is grand so you never feel freezing here.
One thing to note given the number of stairs, a person with mobility/accessibility issues may struggle here.

The room is £525 rent plus bills which currently come out to £86p/m, pp, for council tax, internet and energy - this may go up shortly with council tax but we are not sure as of yet. Council Tax band E.

About the gals and the house ethos
We are El, Kez and Dory, all girls in our early-mid thirties. We love watching movies on the sofa, chatting shit in the kitchen, running errands together, reading, arts, choir, gardening and tending to the (many) plants we have going on and heading over to Crystal Palace farmers market of a Saturday.
We are a very chilled out house who welcome friends over for dinner and drinks - our big party days are (for the most part) behind us so if you're a house party gal, unfortunately we are not for you (big love to the party gals - we see you and we were you!)
We do run a cleaning schedule - it's there to save the weekly 'who's turn is it' talk. We bulk buy toilet roll and washing up liquid to save the same conversations! That being said - we do understand that life happens so don't worry, there are no banishments if there are changes to this!
We operate a supportive ethos in our house hold but massively value independence - so whilst your privacy and space will always be paramount (we totally know the feeling of just wanting the kitchen to yourself in the evening to make dinner after a long hard day) there will always be someone around for a chinwag - we do feel that you have to want to be part of a little community to house share! We all work in different jobs and different schedules so the house never feels 'busy'. Some of us work from home full time, some WFH part time - if you are looking to WFH you can work from either the living room or your bedroom. We reserve the kitchen as a WFH free space.
We've cultivated a lovely little dynamic in our home which we are hoping to extend to someone new. We are a LGBTQIA friendly household <3

The cat
We have another housemate - Herbie the cat. He is one year old and rules our home. He is independent yet sociable - when not outside he can be found sleeping at the bottom of the stairs to your room (he is a trip hazard to be aware of) or sitting in the bath tub waiting for a drink of fresh water (little prince).
He is owned by El who feeds and cares for him. He is an outdoor cat and so there is no litterbox to be aware of!
Whilst not imperative that you are a cat lover, you will need to be at least tolerant of him - and be patient of our love (obsession) for him. As Herbie is here we are afraid that we cannot accommodate another pet.

Yourself!
We are looking for a gal also in her early 30's, who is friendly and considerate - to us the most important thing :)

A note from our outing house mate Ellie who's room you'd be taking!
'Well, it’s your lucky day stumbling across this ad! If you’re the right fit, you’ll be taking my room and slotting into number 26 with this lovely bunch of women. Had I not needed to relocate for work, I could’ve seen myself here for years. Dory, El and Kez are a very special group, and people who I will stay in contact with once I hand my keys in. The dynamic here is a wholesome one; we eat together, play board games together (I would always lose), watch movies together and go out to markets (and hunt for the next pot plant if you’re El or Dory). We even took a little trip together to Istanbul a couple of months back. For me, it felt a lot like having a community, rather than being with people I just happened to be under the same roof as. And that’s what makes this house so special. I think the perfect fit would be someone who wants community, not just cohabiting, while also respecting the space of others and, in turn, having that space respected.'

Viewings
We will book in a time with you to meet with the 3 (potentially 4 if Herbie shows up) of us - we think it's really important everyone gets to meet everyone just to be sure the vibes are right!

If the above seems right for you, please do send us a message :) please note that if we get a lot of responses we may not be able to get back to you - we thank you for the time you take and sincerely apologise if we do not respond - the admin is relentless !
